Tell Uncrate: What Headphones Are You Using?

Tell Uncrate: What Headphones Are You Using?

When we came to the realization that the white, robbery-inducing earbuds included with the iPod didn't sound a whole lot better than our drunk friends' karaoke, something had to be done. For those of you who have moved on, what headphones are you using? In-ear, out-of-ear, or head-encapsulating, we want to know. Be sure to post a link to them!

MDR-EX71 Sony!

They're great! and cheap cos I'm always trapping them in doors, lifts, and animals!

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000092YQW/ref=nosim/uncrate-20

Sennheiser PX100 for when I'm on the move,
HD580 for listening in the comfort of my home.

Futuresonics in-ears with custom ear molds FTW! Much less than the $800 price tag for most other customs and sound as good if not better!

I had the ex-71 sonys.

Now have the Shure E3Cs

hey uncrate, what ever happened to that "fill out this survey and we'll send you some free stuff?

Did anyone ever win?

Ixos DJ1003 in the office
Sony MDR-EX71

Bang and Olufson headphones. Got them as a gift and I can't listen to any other headphones anyomore. They just sound so nice and aren't huge ugly clunkers like some of the other nice sounding headphones out there. In fact, they're quite stylish and they're nearly infinitely adjustable (I swear the engineering in these things is amazing). Seriously, they're worth the money.

Etymotic ER-6i for working out. mowing and shutting out noise.
Sennheiser PX-100 - driving, work and travel great sound.
Sennheiser HD-497 - around house for comfort and great all round sound.

Bose Triports even though they got crushed in my carry-on and the left side is about to fall off. They still have wicked-nice sound..

Mac In-Ear Headphones... pretty cool

Since I tend to allways lose my headphones I stick to the cheaper ones :D

Right now I'm using the Sennheiser earphones that came with my iriver, they'e not the top of the bill but they're OK

Shure E4C. With the right in ear adapter (provided), it blocks out noise fantastically, including airplanes.

I like noise-cancelling headphones but they are just so bulky to travel with. These are perfect.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000E5EF70/ref=nosim/uncrate-20

Sennheiser MX500 for everyday use. They are cheap and easy to replace since I continue to snap the cord in doors, drawers, etc.

Shure E2c for the office so I don't have to hear anyone talk!

I'm using the Bose QC3s they are smaller than the older Bose headsets, and they travel well. I use these primarily on trips, involving planes as the noise cancelation is best in class. When i work out, or have a short trip, i often use the standard iPod headsets, but i can't use them for an extended period, not because of the sound quality, but because they begin to hurt my ears after some time.

Bang and Olufsen's, fantastic.

Shure E4 for everyday commute and shure E3 for the gym

I use the generic iPod head phones when I'm commuting. Don't really see the point in getting anything else as I'm listening to mp3s and their quality isn't all that great.

When I'm in my studio or mixing I'm using the technics 1200 head phones. They are by far the most bad ass head phones I've used. They have great sound quality and durability that any performing electronic musician needs.

I use Sony MDR7506 at my desk and Shur EC3's when I am travelling or working out. The Sony's are great for the price, great bass and range. The Shur's are sound-isolating so I don't hear kids crying on the airplane. I am very satisfied with the sound quality too. I didn't think tiny speakers could sound so well. Both are a great value.

grado sr-60s

Shure e4c out.
Grado 325i at home.

Ultimate Ears Super Fi 5 Pro's....best headphones hands down!!!!!!

OMG, i'm cheap! stock ipod headphones.

These are my over the ear's - Sony MDR-D66 Eggo's

I concur on the Sony MDR-EX71. Would like to give the new Bose ones a try as well... not available here yet though.

Shure E4C

I tried the Sony Ex71's- not a fan, good sound but the cables fray and eventually they melted into a ball of goo in my hot car.

Now, its Koss KSC-75's for me. These headphones are little wonders- the sound is excellent albeit a little bass-heavy, but the price? 15 bucks, tops. Theres tons of ways to modify them too - I recommend them to anyone looking for a spare pair, and oftentimes they end up being their new headphones of choice.

I use Bang & Olufsen earphones when I go for running since I couldn't ear any car coming nor it horn while using my Shure E4C... I use my E4C while in the plane though...

Sennheiser HD 212Pros. Yes, I like a bass.

i am a headphone nut. my current list:
sennheiser hd595 (perfect for cafes, home and flights in first class)
bose QC3 (for flights in coach or long subway rides)
ultimate ears superfi 5 pro (for running or when you need something more subtle / packable)

as a note, i have tried just about every in ear headphone, and the ultimate ears are by far the best. they blow shure away for alot less dough.

Sennheiser HD280 Pro.
Pros: Flat response, comfortable, 15db attenuation.
Cons: Looks like earmuffs.

user-pic

Ultimate Ears Super-Fi 5 Pros. Awesome!

E3c's and Motorola Bluetooth jobbers. THe E3c just stopped working, I think I may have shorted it out with sweat. THere goes $179 bucks.

Ultimate Ears super.fi 5 Pro white. with the double-flange ear tips. $179 on amazon.

Sure E2Cs. They're like buttah!

user-pic

Pioneer HDJ-1000, got them when i was djing at a club. the sound is excellent, although pricey

After burning through a few sets of Sony EX71's (they broke), and getting a pair of Etymotic ER6i's (literally got stuck in my ears) I got a pair of Sennheiser CX300's which I consider the perfect compromise headphones. They're small, light, relatively inexpensive (compared to the ER6i's anyway) sound great, block unwanted sound well, have a sane length cord, and haven't broken yet.

http://www.sennheiserusa.com/newsite/productdetail.asp?transid=500830

Sennheiser PX200's

Etymotic ER-6. Had them for years. Awesome.

Sony In ear phones, black, long cable.

Grado SR 60. The best headphones under 100 dollars for in-home listening, hands down.

http://www.headphone.com/guide/by-budget/40-80/grado-sr-60.php

Truly amazing things, made in the USA.

whatever Dell sent with my DJ Ditty - they work fine - but they're not the most comfortable

Shure E2c

http://www.shure.com/PersonalAudio/Products/Earphones/ESeries/us_pa_E2c_content

Good for noise cancellation - especially on airplanes.

Shure E5c, just like in the picture! These are absolutely awesome. But at $500 they better...

Sennheiser PX100's as well.

user-pic

Etymotic ER6i. Beautiful.

Sony MDR-EX90LP
The bass range is great and they are a little more stylish than most.
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDREX90LP-MDR-EX90LP-Stereo-Earphones/dp/B000EGLZUE

The Bose TriPort is an excellent choice. They go for about $130 bucks, and are well worth it. They're "over ear," comfortable, and block out just enough outside noise. They also provide that spectacular Bose sound.

I use the Sennheiser PMX 70 Sports. They're especially good for running, but the rigid band sometimes get in the way when I'm doing bench presses.

Sennheiser PMX200's. But I really love my JVC headphones that I got years ago. Big clunky 30 dollar headphones. Can't beat it. I seem them in movies all the time (Natalie Portman is wearing them in Garden State when she plays the Shins song in the doctor's office...).

Audio-technica ATH-PROS M5. I managed to get the uber-cool camo version that was sold in Japan.
The sound quality is awesome and the giant earpads are comfy like grandpa's La-Z-Boy. They have a 1.5 meter cord and a gold plated 3.5mm tip which can be screwed into a larger 6.3mm gold plug (included) so i can use them with my vintage Marantz stereo.

http://www.audio-technica.com/cms/headphones/60b1bce22bb6c4e1/index.html

ultimate ears super.fi pro 5's.

i'm not even going to upgrade to the triple.fi's when they come out as i am more than satisfied with my pro 5's.

For daily use (that is subway commuting in Madrid) I use whatever old earphones I can find, the worst looking they are the better; For listening to music away from home, but on a safe place (that is: car while not driving, relatives' houses, etc.) I use the apple in ear headphones, they are not too expensive while delivering pretty decent sound and they isolate from a little noise.

Sony Eggos

Sennheiser CX300 noise-isolating earphones. Good value in-ear phones that work OK.

AudioTechnica ATH-900

Shure E2C's

Etymotic Research ER-4P with s conversion cable and a portable amp.

Sony

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000092YQW/ref=nosim/uncrate-20

I've had them for 5 years, the sound quality is incredible and they do a decent job of blocking out outside noise. Try to run half a block in them and they slide right out of your ears due to the pounding, so I picked me up a pair of these Sennheisers with an extra, customizable size earbud and stabilizer bud which locks them into place into a little fold in your outer ear:

http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-Twist-Stereo-Sport-Headphones/dp/B000FJEYZS/sr=8-5/qid=1161975539/ref=pd_bbs_sr_5/104-9004904-3111938?ie=UTF8&s=electronics

They are water resistant, can't be budged while running and sound quality is amazing. What's more, they are almost the exact same color as my new, gorgeous, green iPod Nano 2g!

Shure e4c for walking around town with the ipod and in the office on the computer.

Grado 85s for listening to records in my rocking chair. Sometimes you have to go old school.

user-pic

Sennheiser PXC250 - folding lightweight but still cover the ear (can use inear/buds, too painful after a while)

they cancel out enough to let me mow the lawn and not have to pump up the volume high enough to do damage. found them on super sale for $90 about 1 year ago.

I have the Sony MDREX81SLB Black Fontopia Ear Bud ones... great stuff for a good price. I've had them for a while and they've suffered some abuse, but have stood up well.

http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/servlet/ProductDetailDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&productId=1001225&navigationPath=46881n32260n100128n100133

Shure E3C's! I've got nothing but fantastic things to say about them.

X5 Bluetooth headphones. Not bad sound quality and you don't have to remove them to take calls. Can connect to your Mac to make Skype calls, but its still got a few bugs in multiple pairings.

Ultrasone HFI-700. Amazing headphones, super comfortable, best set of cans i've owned thus far.

http://www.ultrasone.com/htdocs/08_frameset/hfi_index.php

Shure E2C's, but I think it's time to upgrade.

The earbuds I get with my iPod are good enough for me.

Hello guys,
Well im a profesionnal soundman so by definition I work with the top end in-ear in the industry. After multiple attempt to find the system I was looking for. I went with all shure, sennheiser and more line of in-ear product I finally found what I was looking for. UE10. Its a triple drive in ear wich mean that there is a small speaker for Low, Mid and High frequency each independent plus it is fully personnal. Carefull they are expensive and remember I use them for profesionnal purpose. If you just want good in-ear there is the Shure E2 that are good too.
For those of you that want the absolute best.

http://www.ultimateears.com/custom/UE-10-Pro.htm

Thanks :)

Headbanger Earsubs FTW!

http://www.headbangeraudio.com/

They have a little amp that powers the in-ear subwoofer, it plugs into the ipod power supply next to the headphone jack. Super deep and loud bass, and excellent full sound. For $40, they are awesome.

I also use the generic iPod headphones. Within the next couple of weeks I plan to get the new iPod nano with the newly designed Apple headphones. They are supposed to be better than the old ones.
As I only listen to my iPod outside while biking or running, I don't need the best headphones due to winds an other ambient noises.

After a few years using Apple in-ears, I finally wore or shorted them out... and decided to get Shure E2C (I thought anything else would be overkill to listen to MP3's).

I am ECSTATIC. They're black and match my 5G iPod, and sound awesome. Flew from NY to Buenos Aires, and they work wonders in terms of noise isolation (I love Bose's QC2 and 3, but they're BULKY).

My new set Shure got my vote... (sorry, had 2b done).

Sony MDR-V6 - Best ever (link)
Ipod Buds - for casual, portable listening

Bose Tri-Ports for home use
Shure E2C for portable
Sennheiser PX200 for work (unfortunately, I have to actually hear people when they talk to me)

Ultimate Ears super.fi 5 pro.

wow

Sony's MDR-E828LP headphones are some of the best headphones, dollar for dollar. They are light, comfortable and provide bass response that is worlds above the stock iPod buds. The $10 price tag makes them difficult to beat in my book.

Etymotic ER-4p. Absolute sonic bliss.

I use two pair:

Sennheiser PMX-60 for everyday use. Inexpensive, very good sound, pretty sturdy.
http://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-PMX-60-PMX60-Headphones/dp/B00009LI55/sr=1-1/qid=1161981523/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-7272746-8473617?ie=UTF8&s=electronics

I also have a set of Sony MDR-EX81LPs that I wear on a plane or anywhere I need noise isolation. Possibly the best all-around sound that you can get for $50, but the cord doesn't hold up very well, and the connection at the earpieces is weak, I had to repair mine within 2 months of use.

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR-EX81LP-Bud-Style-Stereo-Earphones/dp/B0007N55LO/sr=1-1/qid=1161981616/ref=pd_bbs_1/002-7272746-8473617?ie=UTF8&s=electronics

I am using the Shure E2C headphones. For 100 dollars, they are a steal, and sound better than my $600 home theater system. THey are a must have for any iPod owner... I even convinced my mother to buy some!

Oldies, but goodies...

Pickering (not sure of the model as the label has worn off)

Not even sure if the company exists anymore.

Grado SR-80's unamped - best cans for Grado SR-325's amped - great audio. One of the better deals in the

In my opinion, open headphones will usually sound better than closed headphones at any given price point.

I used to use some Sony MDR-EX71's until I got some hearing damage at a concert. Now the EX71's are just uncomfortable since the drivers are so close to my ears.

I've switched to some Sennheiser earbuds and so far, they've been pretty good. I still need to get used to the fact that they leak sound and aren't very good outdoors, but at least my ears don't start hurting and ringing when I use them.

Sennheiser PXC-150. Aaah, the sounds of silence (for cheap!)

I use Sennheiser CX 300's

Their less than 40$ online, sound great, and are really comfurtable. I just wish they had the symmetrical cords like all the reviews said they did...

I use Sony's MDR-RF960R. They are a little expensive ($100.00); however, the wireless headphones are great for doing work around the house and studying in bed. The sound quality is also great.

Audio Technica ATH-A900 (about $230)
and
Alessandro MS-1 ($100)

Both own, the a900s are closed headphones, amazing sound quality. The MS-1 are open and i use them as my portables, pretty damn good phones.

Sennheiser HD 25-1 at home, ipod earphones on the move.

Like I said before, I rock UE super.fi 5 Pros. Interesting that everyone here that has ultimate ears has the 5 pros. i guess they are the best of the consumer super.fi line, so very popular. also, when they get nicer than the 5 pros, i feel like the prices are pretty astronomical. does anyone have any of the other super.fi's ?

user-pic

I use Shure E4's when on the go. (Got a deal @http://www.discountheadphones.com/index.html)
They work well at blocking out unwanted noise even on airplanes.
At home I use Sony MDR-V6 Digital Studio Monitor headphones. The're old and big but the sound is incredible.

Bose Quietcomfort 2
well worth the 300 price tag, really light and have 3 speakers in each ear

Another vote for the Shure E2Cs. Love those things.

user-pic

Shure E2c

Shure E2C. They're great for flights.

Too all those who criticize saying, "Pff.. E2Cs have crappy low-mids," I'm sorry, but you don't have crazy superhuman ears that can tell between a low-mid from a mid. Get a life and let me listen to my sweet canalphones in peace!

Limited Edition Grado HF-1s. Go Head-fi!

Bang & Olufsen. Not just slick looking but fully adjustable and they come equipped with bass!

http://www.bang-olufsen.com/web2/systems/accessories.asp?section=systems&sub=ac#

Sennheiser HD-595 at home.
Shure E3c for the iPod.

Sennheiser CX-300 earbuds. Love them.

Shure e2c's. Great portability, GREAT acoustics, comfortable after becoming accustomed, effective noise-blocking... No noise-canceling, but that's the price you pay for the portability.

have the ultimate ears super.fi 3 and just orderd a set of UE-5c from them. 550 bucks, but totally worth it.

Shure E3Cs

They make studying for law school much less painful, almost enjoyable.

on the move sennheiser pcx 250 (with noise cancelling)
otherwise sennheiser hd 25 , incredebly good studio monitors

Shure E5c.. except they do not look like the ones in the picture... and I didn't spend 500 I spent 350 :D

Bang & Olufsen A8 when I want to be able to hear people, Shure e4C when I don't want to be able to hear people.

sennheiser HD 212Pro.....awesome bass. nice balance.

I need to get some new, cheapish earphones. Which do y'all recommend? The new Bose triports or the Shure e2c? Fairly comparable price... but which to buy?

I use the robbery-inducing ones. Other than that I use my Sony...whatever they are. Standard earbuds, still cost like around $20 though. Sometimes when I have too much carry-on space on a trip I pack my Bose QC2s.

Yellow panasonic sport folding headphones.

Standard issue white iPod ear buds.

I use ER-4P microPro earphones by ETYMOTIC RESEARCH. They are truly like having a live concert in your ears! The experience is amazing! Well worth the $189 from ebay, ($300 on website) Check out the reviews at ilounge.com. Personaly I like them better than the Sure E5c or Ultimate Ears super.fi 5 Pro. The sound is natural. You will never listen to your music the same way again! Don't just hear the music, feel it! Prepare to be suprised!

When listening to music, it's a pair of Grado SR325's driven by a GSP Solo amplifier -- and the sound is just delightful, thank you.

For utility purposes, I have a crusty old pair of Koss SB-40s; these are great for gaming and telephony as they're comfortable for extended periods of wear, have an adjustable boom mic for telephony and the occasional online gaming session, closed-ear (to block external sounds and prevent mic feedback), have a nice long 10' cord so they can reach all the way under your desk to the back of your computer, and are cheap enough not to make you cry when they fall to the floor. The drawbacks are the slightly boomy sound (although many listeners won't mind), the mic, which can make you look pretty stupid, especially when in upright position, and they can get pretty warm after hours of extended use, which can make things a little uncomfortable in your ear canal.

Sennheiser HD-570s. Most comfortable headphones I've worn. Will stay comfortable for up to 9 hours of near-continuous use. I plan to buy some wireless Sennheisers next.

Logitech Playgear Mod Headphones, great if you're constantly on the move, better if you're a runner

Shure E3c for workout/travel
Sennheiser HD580 for home use, awesome sound & comfortable

Etymotic ER6i, fantastic.

Grado SR60s.

Me, before: "Yeah, right. Headphones. They're all the same."

Me, after: "OK, maybe not. These ARE good."

Great for home. Not really the portable type, though.

Bose QuietComfort 2 for travel. I love them and they really keep the noise out. I don't see the reason for upgrading to the QuietComfort 3 yet. For running, I use the Nike earplugs with the hook that goes over your ear. I like these because I run and they don't fall out.

Sennheiser HD580
http://www.sennheiserusa.com/newsite/productdetail.asp?transid=004195
Best cans for the buck if you ask me!

Etymotic 6i when I am on the move.

I use freebies I got from Microsoft for some promotion. They have a retractor, which I like a lot.

OK, they are cheap (so am I), but they are just fine as I listen to little more than audio books, which do not require the fidelity and dynamic range of music.

I use Koss Porta Pro, they were first manufactured in 1984 and it's still (and by far) the best headphones you can find. http://www.koss.com/koss/kossweb.nsf/p?openform&pc^pt^PORTAPRO

Shure e4c....love em.

Etymotic ER-6i, I love em. They shutout ALL outside noise though, so probably not good for biking or running outside if there are cars around.

Sony EX-71s
Cheap and good...

Etymotic ER-4P. I love those babies... great isolation, fantastic detail, beautifully musical sound. I tried the Shure E4c phones and they didn't even compare to my old Ety 6i IEMs. If you have the means, I highly recommend you pick one up, as the expression goes. You'll never see your iPod the same again.

For the train, Shure E2C's with foam ear-pieces
For the office, Grado Sr-60's, so I can hear when other people try to get my attention.
For video editing, Sony MDR-V6's.

Etymotic ER-4P. Absolutely impossible to describe the acoustic heaven they take you in!

Shure E3C's.

Love those lil guys.

Koss Porta Pro, the best headphones ever. Period.

Griffin EarThumbs, Since they seal your ear canal, the sound quality is great, but not excellent.

user-pic

Bose Quiet Comfort 2

i love them best ever

but for everyday use i use the ones that come with my ipod

I sport my silver Bose Triports.

Shure e2c's, but they broke. Then I called up Shure and they told me to send them in, turns out there's a serial on there to figure out whether or not they're still in warranty.

Literally a WEEK later, I had a new set of E3c's in the mail. Not a typo.

E THREE C's. They upgraded me without me even asking, just because...they have good customer service?

That's a 100 dollar piece of customer service.

I recommend the company.

That being said, if you don't have the cash, just get the MDR-EX71's, the son'y really are awesome, and better in some ways.

sennheiser px-250 on the plane, audiovox camo jams at home

Sony MDR-EX51LP Studio Monitor Headphones, good performance for the price

I swear I'm still using a pair of all metal earbuds that came with an armor clad Pioneer cassette player I bought way back in the 80's. I've never found anything that gives more bang for the buck. Now, if I could just find another BodySonic Chair.

Sennheiser PXC-250 on the plane

AKG 26p when I am out and about

Grado SR60 for at home. I liked them over the Alessandro SR-1 because I am more of a classic rock guy.

The 250's were a gift, I am still the 100 dollar range headphone guy. Anything under that I have tried and those are my favorite. Excluding buds and in-ears. I hate that crap.

Can't wait for an income to buy amps and 300 dollar cans :) Oh and get wood and new cables for the SR60.

head-fi.org

Shure e2c's mated to iPod 5G 30 gig and Pioneer AirWare XM2Go satellite radio receiver.

sure e3cs, and i love them. my wife uses the e3s as in-ear monitors on stage, and loves those too (less bass than the e3cs).

I'm back again (see my posting above). I'm now craving a pair of V-moda Vibes, which were just announced. Metal housing, funky colors, runs around $100. I might get them to replace the Sonys I currently use.

http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/ipod/review/v-moda-vibe-earphones/

I only ever use the circumaural- on planes and at home and such....

I use the Sony MDR-V6 "Studio Monitors".

Best earmuffs for the price.

Bose QC2 for travel
- by far the overall best noise canceling headphones on the market as far as comfort, sound quality, and canceling of ambient noise. My only complaint is the size, but they are well worth making space in your carry on.

Bose Triport for home
- same sound quality as Bose QC2 but i don't need noise cancellation at home

www.bose.com

Apple issue white for on the go
-not great sound quality, but if they break I can always get a new pair for free from the Apple Store

Sony MDR7506 Professional to DJ
-The best sounding, comfortable, light weight, won't break your neck, not too bass heavy, headphones!

Shure E2c - absolutely great headphone, had 3 pairs of them now... quality, comfort, stylish and can't here anything else while they are in. Perfect.

Etymotic Research ER4p for portable/sealed
Sennheiser HD 570s for desk/large/open experience

While the senn 600s or 650s would kill my 570s, I like the shape of the 570 and they still do sound good. The Ety ER4p are the best phone I've heard, hands down.

Shure E2C for me, didn't even take the white things out of their packing. These have lasted me well they are still going strong after 3 years service.

http://www.shure.com/PersonalAudio/Products/Earphones/ESeries/us_pa_E2c_content

Apple earbud headphones Generation 1. (what else would look better with my iPod?)

Sennheiser CX300, great sound for a decent price.

Shure E4c (two hours a day)
Sennheiser HD515 (at work)
Tritton AX360 (for XBOX Live only)

I went from MDREX-71 Sony earbuds to Sennheiser PX-100 ... and they're just fantastic.

I am a headphones/earphones junkie.

For in ears, I am using Futuresonics MG-3 and Westone UM-2.

For the larger experience, when outdoors, it is either Sennheiser HD-25 or AKG K271. At home, it is definitely the Grado RS-1.

I love my Sumajin SEP-001 earphones.

Shure Ec2 - when commuting and on foot (3h a day)
Sennheiser HD200 - at work

In-ears is a must on the swedish noisy metro!

Bose QC II's

Great sound repro and you can't beat them for air travel.

Etymotic ER-6.

I work in a noisy web design studio. Put them in, can't hear a thing. Lets me enjoy my music at low volume rather than having to crank it up to drown out the chatter.

Top quality iPod companions.

beyerdynamic DT-100. loud, indestructable, midrange-heavy sound. style.

Sennheiser PX100s, sub-$100, folding, hard case, great sound, use 'em at work and home. I would like to add some sound-isolating earbuds like CX300s or maybe some nice circum-aural cans later, but these serve me well for now.

The Shure E5C in ear monitors sound terrific. Though the cable can be a little unwieldy and leaving them at the health club is an exercise in anxiety inducing financial liability.

Sennheiser HD-202 for everywhere!! Awesome...pretty cheap too...

Nobody's mentioned this but I swear by them... Headbanger Audio in-ear phones. Wired magazine had a blurb on them a few months back and they said for the money ($20) you couldn't go wrong. They are amazing for the money. They are in-ear headphones which run on two AAA's, no actual noise cancellation other than that they fit snuggly in the ear, dampening most external noises. It gives music an unbelievable thump that I haven't heard wearing my Senny's.
I found them on the Walmart website; everyone who I've let try them can't believe I got them for only $20!
Great for both my iPod and my DS.

Bang & Olufsen Form 2
small, light, good sound.

Ultimate Ears super.fi 5 ... amazing, period.
Etymotic er6i ... for working out b/c they deliver great sound with the sweat-proof plastic flange tips
Future Sonics EM-3 EARS. When I want to go stealth - the beige body and cord blends into my skin tone. Fantastic sound with the foam sleeves

Pioneer Airs Lite - they're hard to find, but don't actually plug into your ear canal, instead have a wider speaker that slides inside your ear lobe - great for those of us that tend to get ear infections or allergy-related ear problems.

bose triports. i don't think there is another pair of full headphones that have their combination of lightness, comfort as well as sound. plus, they don't take a lot of power to drive (less than sony ex71's in face)

bose qc2 for travel.
(even without music very nice)

shure e3c's and etymotic research ER6i at the time....im planning on getting the bose qc 2's and the in ear triports..

Bang and Olufsen Earphones.

Look awesome, sound awesome.. very functional and stylish.

For anyone in Canada i'm using a cheap and simple pair of inner ear buds made by Centrios ($15). They have adjustable rubber pieces to fit different sizes of ears. If you don't have enough money for amazing sound, they're pretty good and are very aesthically pleasing. I've seen them at the Source and Shoppers Drug Mart.

sadly, the originaly iPod headphones.

otherwise i use Sony DJ Headphones at home on my keyboard and Sennheiser wireless phoney's for late-night home theatering.

I've had my orange Ultimate Ears UE-5c monitors for about three years now. I'm not a professional sound engineer, but being an audiophile & music enthusiast, I just had to have them. Well worth the price. In fact, I am going to order a second pair for when these need service. They are that good that I never want to be without them. I think I'll stick with the UE-5C instead of the UE-10 since I almost always listen to different types of rock music.

Sennheiser MX-500s - have gone thru 1/2 dozen sets now, cheap but sorta aok - high dB rating which means my Nokia n91 batteries last a lot longer. Have bought a few sets also for my teen children replacing the rubbish that comes with most MP3 players these days... They definitely notice the difference even for these cheapies... Am leaning towards some Sennheiser OMX 52 Streets as next set... My dream would be some hot shot Shures for sure - money, money, money !

The Westone UM-2's ROCK! I used to have those tired old Ety's, but then I found the Westone's.....pure audio bliss!!! After all it's what the pro's us!!

Portable:
Koss Porta Pro &
Sennheiser PX100
(about $40)
They're both about the same quality and price, it all depends on what style you're going for... the Koss are excellent retro ware.

Home listening:
Sennheiser HD555
(about $150)
Beautiful rich sound, extremely comfortable, and damn classy.

Mixing/Recording:
Shure E2c
$100
Fit great, extremely accurate, not too expensive. Not ideal for portable listening, can get uncomfortable, and they respond wierd to windy situations.

Shure e4c. i work in NYC and these things completely shut out all outside noise while walking down the street or riding the subways.

Have a pair Sony MDRa, but for the gym I just picked up a pair of Logitech Bluetooth. Sure they lack the dynamic range of, well just about everything but I have had it with sacrificing form and contorting myself to avoid snagging the wire, and then doing anyway. I wish someone could make a good set of ear buds with BT built in. If they can make cell headsets that small why can't the do it with MDRs? That would be worth big bucks to me. Probably only a matter of time until BT is standard on iPods anyway.

Shure E2c

Excellent noise cancelling and sound, not as pricey as other headphones with similar features.

grado sr 60 awesome quality sound at very affordable price:).

I just picked up a pair of the Westone UM-2s, and they are simply amazing! The sound is like nothing else I have heard from a pair of headphones, nice deep bass, nice highs, and great all around sound. Not only that they also provide great noise isolation to drown out the idiots on the train, but they allow me to play my iPod at lower volumes, so I might stretch out the batter life a bit. Previously I used a pair of the Sony MDR-EX90LP, and they were very good as well, and about half the price of the Westone UM-2s.

Shure e2c

Using SHURE E4
Amazing sound and I've got them for a good price... I'm working in a store that sells them. Only bad thing ... I'm using them on a crappy cd player for now !

Home:
Sennheiser 650 - excellent sound quality

Work:
Koss Porta Pro - have had these for loooong time

Traveling/riding motorcycle:
Custom molded Challenger M's - good isolation and fits under helmet

I use the Koss Sparkplug (new white ones)

Theyre supposed to be hackable but i still havnt tried. Theyre good enough and they have alot of bass for you all rap/hardrock lovers. I still kinda miss the treble but i dont want headphones that will give me anything in between.

Shure E2g
Grado SR60
Koss Porta Pro

green Gumy (by JVC) earbuds. work pretty well. but personally, i don't like earbuds much- they fall out--- and, well they go in your ear. ick

Bose TriPort when I'm at home, Bose TriPort IE when I'm out. BOSE fan?

Am I the only one to use ER6 (non-i)? =P

ER6 for go and work, loudspeakers at home.

- Old school Shure E1s from back in my live sound engineering days

- Beyerdynamic DT831

- Beyerdynamic DT770 PRO (my workhorses - incredible sound and isolation, damn near indestructible)

Ok so I have listened to the following:
- Shure EC3 - Great balanced sound and wonderful sound isolation. Good price for the quality of sound.
- Shure E500PTH - UNFREAKIN' BELIEVABLE!!! I used to work security for live concerts and there is nothing on the market that I have listened to that can produce live sound as good as these even though they cost $500, they are worth it.
- Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 EB - I liked these but they had too much bass for my liking, and it acutally infringed upon the clarity of the overall sound.
- Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro - I have these and they are great!!! I purchased these on www.earphonesolutions.com They have great customer service, and lower prices on Shure, Ultimate Ears, and Etymotic, than anyother site around.

Hope this is helpful.

I have the Etymotic ER-4P and they are awesome. When I fly they cut out all kinds of noise and the sound is fantastic.

Shure E2C's at work
and
Grado 60's at home

The e2's are better for quiet and comfort but the grado's sound better. Not a lot better but enough to notice.

Sony MDR-XD200 cans, they were the best I could get for the cash I had.

$10 canal 'woofer' earphones from ebay (search for 'subwoofer earphone' will probably turn up 100 or so - these are GREAT for the price, cheaper than any

But still doesn't beat my cmoy 2x9v diy head amp with my bigold curcumnural sony mdr-cd470's & chaintech av710 in my pc, that is just beautifull sound...

Shure E4

Way better than anything Bose.

Senn PX100's and i am content...

...for now

Using Audio-Technica ATH-A900, wonderfully built Japanese headphones. http://www.audiocubes.com/product/Audio-Technica_ATH-A900_Art_Headphones.html

my cheap $10 Sony MDR-E828LPs (in-ear headphones)
they sure def sound way, way better than those cheap iPod ones.

user-pic

audio technica ath-es5
best ultra portable over the head cans IMHO
http://www.audiocubes.com/product_info.php?products_id=1083

I dismissed my iPod headphones a few months ago when I bought the Sennheiser HD 415 (http://www.sennheiser.nl/nl/icm_nl.nsf/root/products_sennheiser_headphones_hi-fi-wired_500264). The sound quality is just amazing..it's hard to take them off every single time.

Etymotic ER-6i for travel, etc., but I use a cheap pair of JVC HAF120G Gumy Headphones (Green) for running and biking -- when it's safer not to be *too* isolated.

B&O A8 ....its selling for $150

Bose QC2...the old school QC. I like the over-the-ear design. Great sound quality and so quiet, I love it. For working out and such I just go with the standard iPod in-ear, they do the trick.

I just use the old-school Sony studio monitor headphones. They've great sound for only %50 and they're still small and lightweight enough to carry around in my bag. My only problem with them is the insanely long cord, but then again, that's to be expected anyway.

I'm rocking out with Grado Labs SR125 open air head phones. These bad boys won both the Stereophile "accessory of the year" & "budget component of the year."

Sennheiser HD 515 @ work

Was using in-ear Etymotics ER6i

http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/er6i.aspx

I still haven't found the perfect headphones yet..

A friend had a Bose Noise Cancelling that were pretty tight that I might look in to.

Can't believe no one uses the XtremeMac FS1's?
They are between Sony EX71's and UE SuperFi 5 Pro.

They have great foam eartips that provide all the bass you need and you can find them for $35 on eBay.
Better than paying the $150 retail price.

I'm pretty picky and these won't let you down!

I have Shure like that pictured. I've only used them once because I find this style of in-ear headphones uncomfortable.
Most of the time I use the headphones that came with my iPod.

the ones that came with my ipod and Philips noise cancelling, can't recall the designation

been using px100 for sometime now.... got them for 35 from headroom.com(some special offer), and have loved them eversince. Not a huge bass fan, love clarity more than anything. i am goign to try koss spark plug just for the heck of it($10)... lets see how they are.

Hey man, I just put the Ghettoblaster on my shoulder and crank it up!

seriously though, just got an ipod for use at work (construction) so I need some noise reducing earbuds that sound great and don't cost a million dollars. I've been finding mixed reviews on Sure and Bose... So far only good reviews on the Vibe but not great noise reduction... any suggestions for around $100???

I have to have realistic sound quality and go through a lot of headphones. the Sennheiser IE3 is the only one so far that comes close for me. hard to find, but dealers can get them. for the money (and they are around $99), the sound is priceless. If you can find them, you'll love them. no matter what anyone says, everyone likes what they like and you have to hear these things first - reviews won't mean a thing if you don't like them.

now, I listen to everything as often as I can and nothing comes close to these things. not the Bose, Shure, Ultimates, Sony...nada! like a really good audiophile speaker in an earphone.

Finding them is another trick altogether. I bought this set as a replacement part from my local guitarcenter. ;)

peace,

DJembe
