Tell Uncrate: What Cell Phone Are You Using?

We're starting a weekly feature today called "Tell Uncrate." Once a week, we'll post a different question seeking your opinion on something. A lot of you have been wanting comments on our stories for a while. We're not ready to do that, but now is your chance to tell us and other Uncrate readers why you recommend or don't recommend something. When you leave a comment on these open threads, please be courteous and helpful or we'll have to ban your ass. If your comment requires a link to a product, please be sure to include it. Our first topic we want to know about is what cell phone you're using right now, and what's good about it and what's not so hot about it. Commence.

I have a Razr V3 (Black in Color, GSM - Cingular). I am not very happy with it. The battery life is not great, the volume is software limited, I do not get great signal (in chicago). I am just waiting to get a smart phone, but I am not sure which one to get...

Haha. Two comments in a row regarding how lousy the RAZR is. Mine broke in a month, and since Cingular refused to replace it, I'm using one of the cheap $60 phones, the Sony Ericsson z300a. Honestly, the interface is better and I like it much more than the RAZR. Don't waste your money on overpriced phones, people!

user-pic

I use the Motorola SLVR and it sucks. I thought I would use the iPod function a lot but I dont. The keys seem to get "stuck" frequently causing me to dial incorrect phone numbers. Also, this phone doesnt keep an accurate memory of who has called you and when. If the person calling you is in the list of 10 previous calls, it deletes the last entry causing you to not know if the same person has been franticly trying to get in touch with you. This doesnt seem like such a big deal but you dont realize how much you need that function. Phew, I feel better.

I use a Motorola RAZR V3m (Verizon, gunmetal grey.) It's alright, certainly better than the piece of crap Samsung I had previously. Not the flashiest of phones certainly, but it was cheap ($60 with new contract) and it does what I need a cell phone to do: send and receive phone calls.

I've got a Motorola Q (Verizon, of course). Switched to the Q in July from a Treo 650. I love the size, and enjoy Windows Mobile 5. My company runs Exchange, so the integration is seemless. If I'm ever in a pinch, I can query our global address book of 140k people - that's proved to be extremely helpful. EVDO coverage is great in the Northeast. The only drawback = battery life. The Q and it's standard battery can't go a day without a charge.

I have a Nokia 6030 (black, GSM, cingular).
The good - compact, slim "bar" type, Nokia reliability when it comes to signal reception.

The bad - this is an extremely simple mobile phone --- so camera, email, bluetooth, etc. are not present.

I like it because I love Nokia (brand loyalty), I like smaller phones, and I like phones for what they were meant to be --- an efficient method of communication.

I currently use a dated motorola i710. I hate it, i don't like nextel. It is way too big for what it does. I am planning on upgrading to some kind of a smartphone or a sidekick 3.

SonyEricsson W810 - it's awesome. All functions, compact design. Love SE.

I'm using the Sony Ericsson k800i, the phone is pretty trick. The deciding factor was the 3.2 MP camera. The camera is actually a Cybershot camera, very legit. They k800 is more like a camera with a phone added to it.

Plus: It's excellent for mobile blogging, it's got a send to blog function and other useful functions. This is the camera phone I've always waited for.

Minus: The video capabilities are lame.

After years of using different versions of Hiptops a/k/a Sidekicks, I've been using an unlocked SLVR running hacked firmware on T-Mobile's network for about 9 months. I'm not a fan of Motorola's UI, but I've gotten used to it. My biggest annoyance is that I've had a bit of dust creep in under the screen cover, and that this is apparently a common problem with the RAZR and SLVR.

I recently ditched my RAZR for a new Moto KRZR. I really wasn't too disappointed with the RAZR until the keypad started stinking. No amount of cleaning seemed to help. The KRZR isn't much of a leap from the RAZR though. And I'm pretty much hating the blue casing. The interface is super nice and quick though.

I have the Blackberry Pearl 8100. It's definitely the best Blackberry yet. Don't let the Suretype feature scare you away...it took me all of an hour to get extremely comfortable with it.

user-pic

I use a motorola v171 with tracfone service...yeah prepay baby!

I have gone decidedly down market on my phones. Every impressive phone I have bought broke or was crap. Broke a Razr in half (you know, they do not work as well in 2 pieces. Make a note) and watched my Sony W600 Walkman phone burts into 10,000 pieces after dropping it...Now I have incredibly un-hip Sanyo SCP-2400.
No camera.
No bluetooth.
Dull.
When I destroy that, I won't even care.

I'm still using a Sony Ericsson T610. I really like this phone and has all the features I need. The only downside is the overally sensitive microphone which transmits too much background noise.

Looked at the new Blackberry Pearl yesterday and I may have to pull the trigger. The huge downside though is that you don't get full email capability without a Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES) install on your Exchange server. IMAP is pretty much crippled to force you to use BES.

The Nokia E series phones look really good, but besides ebay, I'm not sure where to buy it in the US.

I use the LG VX8300 for Verizon service. It's the best phone for Verizon without going for a treo, mp3 player or super camera phone. The memory card feature makes transferring photos, sounds and movies to and from the phone a breeze.

Treo 650... Got it for the e-mail functionality and Bluetooth. Its a bit of a brick, but its not bad. As well, battery life is less than desirable, as I MUST charge it daily or it will die on me at about 2pm. Oh look, its nearly 2pm, and I forgot to charge last night...

I'm a very happy Sony Ericsson w810i user. To second comments made above, it's compact, it has all the key features, great sound quality, great little camera and an intuitive, well-designed user interface to control it all. This is my third SE phone and I've been happy with them all.

Sony Ericsson W810i. Love it.

Sony Ericsson D750i with W800i Software

Samsung T-509 and T-Mobile service. Not too many features, but much more reliable than my Razr ever was.

I'm using a Nokia N73 right now. It's a solid handset, though I do miss the WiFi of my N80.

I use a Siemens S65 (a rather old high-end phone), but I'm looking to change it, I would like a Nokia 6233 or a N72, but here in Argentina, people likes clamshells so candybars are getting rare, and the best option now is a 6131 (for the price, it costs around 170-200 dollars, or 500-600 pesos).

Nokia 6131 on Cingular. Great little quad band nokia calmshell.

I've had the Motorola PEBL in the original black for over about 7 months now and I love it! I really like its round shape, weight, and unique texture which makes it feel realistically like a pebble. The one-handed opening ability is so efficient, it makes me cringe to try and open another cell with two hands. The only negative thing I would say is that the shiny keypad is a magnet for fingerprints.

Verizon Palm Treo 650 with the outrageous unlimited data plan for a total of $80/month!!!

I've been using a Samsung SGH-X820 for a couple months now. Its not available stateside, and I think the one that I ordered off of Ebay was delivered from Hong Kong, but is the model made for the French market. It is the thinnest phone in the world, and the minimalist black look is really nice. Tmobile is now selling a US market version called the T519...but for some reason they've ratcheted down some of the specs (decrease MPX on the camera, for example)

For aesthetics the phone is a solid ten, but I've been less than happy with the antenna; coverage is dodgy enough as it is in the US, and this phone doesn't make it any better.

Nokia 6188, very basic, had it for years. Waiting for a GPS, wifi enabled phone. Their closer (HP IPAQ 69xx series, Fujitsu LOOX T830), but not quite picked up by the big carriers in Canada.

I picked up a T-Mobile Dash this week. Pro: awesome size, thinnest QWERTY on the market (even moreso than the Q). Con: Windows Mobile doesn't play nice with Mac OS X.

I keep switching back to Sony Ericsson phones, their UI is superior to anyone else.

I bought an unlocked Motorola SLVR L7 from Newegg on sale a few months back, and have enjoyed it quite a bit. It has the same sex appeal as my old Siemens s65. The battery life has proven to be adequate for my needs, and reception is excellent in my area. Being unlocked, I don't have to deal with any of the schlock that Cingular would have thrown on the phone, and I also paid about half what they were expecting to charge me for an upgrade. The only niggle I have is that sometimes call quality is sub-par, with a sort of modulating buzz in the background. I imagine this is a byproduct of trying to cram a bunch of electronics into such a small form factor, and I understand it to be an acknowledged problem in the SLVR and RAZR lines.

I use a razr V3. It's better than my old Nokia, but not as good as my previous T610. SE rocks, only the design isn't always "wow"

I'm currently using the Motorola Pebl on Fido. The phone itself is fine, good size, neat flip feature, decent camera. However, I hate the Motorola software interface. It isn't particularly easy to do anything.
I miss the simplicity of my old Sony Ericsson T310..

I've got the Motorola V325 from Verizon. Got in April '06 and am now on my second one. I brought it in because all of a sudden I couldn't hear anything, no ringing on outbound calls, no voices, nothing. they couldn't fix it so they gave me a new one.
other than the ear piece issue it hasn't been a bad phone. it was the first to have the VZ Navigator, which was the main reason why I got it in the first place.
It has a nice, loud speaker phone, takes decent pictures, and the reception never lets me down.
The external display is really small, but it does the job. It also has an external ring that lights up blue for incoming calls. A nice feature when you're driving at night and can't hear the ring over the radio.

I'm using the tried-and-true Treo 650. With push-email (like a blackberry) and google maps, it's served me very well. Yes, you've got to recharge it often, but that's about the only downfall I see. It beats any windows mobile phone any day.

I currently have the Cingular 1825(PDA). Gunmetal grey(would've liked a version in black). Windows Mobile 5, Windows Media Player 10 Mobile; Word, Power Point, and Excel Moble. 1.3 Megapixels Camera... I was hoping for maybe a better camera, but it serves its purpose. Media players plays most media(wmv., wav., mpg., mpeg., etc.). Touch screen, with QWERTY keyboard(slides easily under the screen, eliminating bulkiness), this phone can sometimes be hard to operate while driving, even WITH bluetooth earpiece. That's pretty much my only complaint! Other than that, this phone is GREAT!!!

I've got a Motorola PEBL right now. I switched to it from the SLVR which freaked me out after long conversations cus I thought I could feel my brain cooking. The PEBL is cool, but I've dropped it a few times and it seems like certain names are being erased from the phonebook for no reason. I want to upgrade soon, but may hold out to see if the iPhone comes out at the end of the year.

Treo 650. Love it. Using Bluetooth, e-mail, music player, everything! It is larger than most pure phones but a good size when held next to most Blackberrys that don't have all the features. Slippy (post above) is getting poor battery life. I overnight charge just once a week but always top off in the car when in the GPS cradle. Yeah, GPS. Like I said... it does everything!

I have a Nokia 6260 Smart phone running the Symbian OS for seriess 6 phones. It's unlocked. It rocks. It works everywhere in the world. It has word, powerpoint, excel, acrobat, a real web browser, camera, video, FM radio Etc. The only thing that I do not like about the phone is, it came out almost 2 years ago so the camera is just VGA resolution. Other than that it is a great phone. The fact that it is unlocked rocks. I am not tied to a network. I can use it with aany carrier that is GSM. The battery life is excelent. Signal strength reception is always amazing even in areas where friends phones hardly work at all. The screen is large. It has one of the best address books I have ever used on a cell phone. Sound quailty is great.

I use the Motorola e815. It's the most solid phone I've ever owned. The OS on this phone is more robust than the RAZR, and the phone itself is much more stable. Decent camera, 1000 phone number directory. It is a bit bulky, and has the old-school Motorola chargers that are notorious for breaking (though I haven't broken one since Gen-1 of the design). All in all a great piece.

Nokia N73 in White/Mocha. Finally upgraded from the ancient Nokia 7250i and couldn't be happier. 3.2 megapixel camera with S60v3 interface. You wouldn't expect battery life to be good on a phone with so many features, but with average use I only have to recharge about every 4-5 days.

I'm using the Nokia E50 for the second week now. Seems ok, though a tad slow. Like the qvga screen, bluetooth-syncing calendar and the fairly slim design.

i review cell phones for a living so i have a different one every week. this week it's the blackberry pearl (from t-mobile) i love the size, and the camera is amazing, but after you get past the first screen with all the icons, it looks like you're using a teletype machine. it's so cold and unfriendly.

Holding out for the T-Mobile Dash. In the meantime still plugging along with my 2+ year old Motorola A630, which is an oddity-- a horizontal clamshell with a color screen and QWERTY keyboard inside and standard keypad + monochrome LCD outside. With SymbianOS + Series60 it would have basically been a smartphone (I've used and like the Nokia 6620 mentioned above), but with the Moto OS it's extremely user-unfriendly.

user-pic

Sony W810i - Good phone, like the UI after a 6320i, wish it was a K800i! Thinking about the BlackBerry pearl but if there is ever an iPhone!!

Sony Ericsson K750i w/ T-Mobile. Love it. I typically leapfrog SE models, so I'll upgrade when the successor to the K800 comes out (although the new silver one is tempting).

user-pic

Still waiting for a clamshell smart phone with full qwerty.

I dual-weild a RAZR v3 and a Sidekick 2. Hooray for swappable SIM cards.

Most of the time I have my Sidekick with me because it's the best phone I've ever used, but when I'm in da club gettin' tipsy, I take my RAZR for the low profile and excellent vibrate mode.

The Sidekick 2 is the shizzle becaues it's got a really great phonebook app, an adequate calendar and just enough web surfing power to come in when I'm way from my desk. Oh, and the IM feature is good too.

MOTOKRZR k1m, no complaints on the motorola end, i just wish verizon would get rid of the bluetooth handcuffs

I almost forgot the question.... I use a Samsung T619. So far it's been great. Pretty light and thin. Wish I had more control, but oh well. It was free on Amazon, which is definitely the best place to buy a new phone.

I have a Sony Ericsson K750i with w800 firmware. It's a great phone and I've had it for well over a year. The UI is very intuitive, has a 2mp camera, and upgradable memory to 4gb which I will be doing shortly. FM radio is a nice touch as well. Best phone I've owned yet.

I have a Nokia 6131. Better than any razr.

I've just recently upgraded from a Sony Ericsson W800i to W810i. I bought the W800i because of good reviews. After using it myself, I realised its the best phone I've ever had (and I've had lots). Bluetooth worked perfectly, the Walkman/FM Radio feature and the Memory Stick upgrade was superb. Camera was pretty sweet too. Only annoying thing was the software you had to use to get the MP3s on the phone. But W810i has remedied that, and its now an ass-kicking phone. I highly recommend it.

I have a Nokia 9500 Smart Phone/Communicator. This is basically a pocket computer and phone combined. This tri band phone works anywhere in the world, and since I purchased it online, I was able to buy an unlocked version that works with GSM and EDGE phone carrier services. I like this phone because it has a full QWERTY keyboard, buit in WiFi, advanced messaging, 80 MB built-in memory for saving contacts, messages, files, images, sounds, and applications, MultiMediaCard (MMC) slot with hotswap functionality for additional memory. The display is an amazing 640 by 200 pixels. In additon it has the following features, Timed profiles, Customizable profiles, Alarm clock, Music player with MP3, MPEG-4 (AAC), real audio, and MIDI, Wallpaper: full-screen color image, Changeable color schemes, Screensaver: digital clock in cover, Closed user group, Voice recording, Integrated handsfree speaker, Conference call capability (up to 6 participants), Log viewer for communication: email, calls, MMS, and SMS.

What's missing? Well for starters a decent camera. This thing still shoots at 640 by 480, and for the money you spend on this phone Nokia should kick it up a notch and get at least 1 megapixel in this thing. In addition, this is a big phone, 5.5 by 2 inches, by just over half an inch thick.

I've had a Motorola PEBL for a few months now, and it's the best phone I've owned to date. The one-handed opening is a nice feature and actually more useful and less gimmicky than I initially thought. Only complaints are that the battery life isn't the greatest and it takes an occassional moment to wipe off the screen, but neither is a deal-breaker for me. I'd like to see one offered with a brushed metal exterior.

Another mostly-satisfied w810i user. Upgraded from the T637 which I loved but was starting to die. $99 on contract made it a better deal than the better-camera-phone I really wanted.

SE's have unparalleled interface quality and ease of use. My only gripes are with Cingular's custom "mods", adding to and replacing many of the built-in functions and one useful hard-button with links to "buy ringtones, games, and photos". I'm assuming an unbranded one would be much better. I find myself pressing the "Cingular Net" button all the time, as it shares space with one of the two "soft keys" used for most functions (like "ending a call")

I sport a VX9800...great multi-function device, and I can hear everyone perfectly, but.

I sound like I'm in a digital tunnel to everyone, regardless of signal strength. So, it gets a C in phone-nessand an A+ in gadget-ness.

I use the motorola e815 all the pluses of the RAZR but none of the headache my friedns have told me about...except for I am a Verizon customer and was lied to about data tranfser details via Bluetooth...having known then what I know now I still get the phone just thru another carrier...

I use a Sony Ericsson S710a. It's a nice swivel phone, though it's a tad on the bulky side. It's got great built in apps, an awesome display (especially for text messages), and the 1.3mp camera is nice. The interface is wonderful like other SE phones (I previously had a T610), but the menus sometimes respond a little slowly.

I'd love to make the jump to a smartphone, but data plans will have to become more affordable before I can justify it.

I recently traded in my Motorola V710 for the Samsung a990. Although I wanted a sexier looking phone like the LG Chocolate or Motorola RAZR, the hardware reviews I read claimed that their features and service wasn't as good as they should be. Why buy a sexy looking phone if it doesn't have the features to back it up?

This is why I went with the A990. It's fully featured, BREW 3.0 with a 3.2 megapixel camera. It's like an adult toy Transformer, converting from phone to camera with the flip of an LCD screen.

I really like it. Some of the txt msg controls and interface are a bit weird, different from my previous handset, and Verizon requires you buy just about EVERYTHING (ringtones, notification sounds, etc...) separately, so that's lame. Also the Bluetooth capability is limited to earpieces. Stupid.

So there you go.

Crackberry 7100t ... can't live without it, although I'd rather have a full QWERTY keyboard.

Sprint Katana Blue.

Great phone, web is lightning fast. They said it had power web service, but no features available.

Awesome phone awesome battery life.

user-pic

I use a Motorola E815 on Verizon. It was either this phone or the RAZR (my previous experience with LG phones made me steer clear of them entirely). I picked the bulkier (and more reliable) of the two due to widely available hacks that allowed me to re-enable Verizon's crippled Bluetooth on the phone, as well as a MicroSD slot, which was not available on the RAZR at the time.

Plusses: good call quality, more durable than a Verizon RAZR, nice speakerphone and decent PIM functions, full Bluetooth on a Verizon phone, Micro SD slot, big keypad.

Minuses: It's a big freaking phone. The MP3 player functionality is pretty much zero compared to an actual MP3 player. Not all that great for action games, due to the small central control pad.

I use a Blackberry 8700c. It's pretty good...does everything I like it too, but at times I wish I had something a lot more streamline in my pocket (a la the RAZR). Other than that, no complaints.

been running the sony ericsson w800 since it came out. great phone, only trouble in LA, the lack of good coverage. it works well where i spend most of my time, but if i leave the general area, all the towers are usually gsm 8xx only. the new 810 and ilk with quad band work really well everywhere though.

Sprint Treo 600 for work.
Sony Ericsson T610 for personal use.

I have the Motorola V710, cool music player and video player, but the Verizon Bluetooth lock down chaps my hyde. I would switch carriers if I had to pay for my service, thanks work, but for my next phone I want to get the new Motorola KRAZR. Looks sweet.

Treo 650 w/Cingular (but defecting the moment my contract ends). It's a bit bulky, but nothing beats having my phone, email, calendar, addressbook and everything else I need in one package. I'm just hoping Sprint will get a 680 equivalent before my Cingular contract runs out.

I'm using the Samsung A900 on Sprint. The music features just are not what I expected (50 megs? Honestly...).

The screen is great and the ability to use mp3's as ringtones and any java game is a great. I also use the internet service quite a bit to get to my gmail account, movie times, etc... but it is a bit limited in the number of sites you can visit b/c of lack of compatibility (resolution, plug-ins).

I have the TV service... never use it. It's just a novelty at this point.

What do I want? A full featured phone with great battery life and slim profile. Why is that so hard?

imate jamin - love it, but hate the on screen keyboard, looking to upgrade to the jasjam asap

I have the Samsung D807 with Rogers (any other Canadians out there?)

I've had it for about two weeks and so far its pretty good... they only thing that sucks is that the ear piece volume is a bit low (read any review and you'll hear the same complaint) but overall its pretty good...

I didn't feel like getting a RAZR ... there were simply too many of them out there

Samsung T509 - Great slim & sleek phone with none of the features I would never use. Good reception in the metro area I live in, and reguarly gets oohs and ahs for the sexy screen in such a tiny profile.

Considering extreme actions to snatch my buddy's new Blackberry Pearl, though.

Sony Ericsson w810i. I am a gadet freak, and usually an early-asopter, thus I've had MANY cellphones including the Moto RAZR and SLVR.

I have to agree witht he comments above though, The SE w810i is the best phone I've ever had. It's the whole package: excellent UI, excellent sync, excellent reception, I could go on and on...

I have a Motorola RAZR V3.

I think this cellphone is great 'cause its size, also its design is very stylish, I used my phone in Europe, US and Mexico and it worked quite well.
The only thing I'm not happy with is its battery; It's weird 'cause sometimes can last 2 or 3 days (using it regularly), but sometimes without even using it at all the battery dies in 12 hours..!

Just moved from tmo, where i had a 6126 (euro version) that I loved, to vzw. I got a treo 700w, mostly for work, and i love the push email.

I use both a Nokia 8801 and a HTC TyTN I brought over from across the pond. The Nokia is a great phone. The steel is awesome, the sliding form is perfect, and the OS and other features are nice (especially the custom ringtones). It's pretty damned expensive though, although you do get a private support telephone number and extended factory warranty on the phone.

The TyTN, while being a fatty pda phone, is amazing. It has damn near every connectivity option you can think of, including HSDPA, and I really like the slide out keyboard. I've actually used it in lieu of a laptop on some trips. Definitely pick this one up when it comes out as a Cingular branded phone (minus the 3g video conferencing camera on the front).

Motorola Ming A1200

SE W800 - Love it!

Samsung SGH-X497. Free phone from Cingular. It rings (dont need a stupid ringtone to express my poor taste in music), it calls out. Dont need anything more.

I'd love a PDA/Phone, but all the extra bells and whistles these days are insane.

I am using a Sonyericsson W900, that's a great phone which is with nice outlooking and very functional.

RAZR V3 Silver

Hot: slimmy flippy phone, bluetooth, mobilephonetools, mini-USB for charging/synching, futuristic-keypad engraving.

Not: GUI, battery life, T-mobile! Thinking of one of the Samsung Ultra-slims now!!

I use my good old Nokia N70. Never had a problem with it and its survived many a run in with solo cups and martini glasses alike. Definitely going to upgrade to something with US band 3G and wi-fi, but such a tough decision...p990, tytn, e60, 07 blackberry, so many choices...N70 rocks for now.

I have a Cingular 3125 (also known as the HTC Star Trek phone). I love my phone because it's a great compromise--form factor of a RAZR and capabilites of a smartphone. Its not for the demanding business user like a Treo or Blackberry, but it works great for the techno-geek. Windows Mobile is a nice OS for a phone and the convenience of syncing with Outlook is a plus. Most of all, I don't have to pay my provider for any of the nickel and dime crap like wallpapers, ringtones, themes etc, since I just plug my phone to my PC and it's just like a hard drive.

Samsung SGH-D900. Love the phone, slim slider, 3MP, microSD card slot, BT, etc. The only problem is the headset/charger port is a weird proprietary job which means I have to use their headphones to listen to music(until I find GOOD BT stereo phones). Very light, not too delicate(handles moderate wear and tear well). If I could use it with Verizon's system it'd be perfect, alas, I have cingular and have their traditional *cough*CRAPPY*cough* service. with a Samsung WEP200 it's a perfect setup. One quirck: The battery has some issues where most times it will last two days without recharging but the next day it'll go from full charge(attached to charger in the morning) to dead by 5PM--with little to no usage that day. Otherwise great.

I'm on the black M600i from SE. I got it in Hong Kong when I was there on business. Great little phone and the blackberry email makes it almost perfect. The only problem is there is no syncing solution for the Mac yet. I'm hoping it's that Symbian 3.0 is just too new.

i had the v70, the one that rotated. i'd still use that phone if the buttons hadnt gotten hard to push.

now i use a razr, and its my third. i went through two before that that got major dust under the screen. the one i have now, i modified to fix that problem, but it only slowed it down. i need to take it apart again, and blow the dust out.

Treo 650 on Verizon. It's the Palm OS based model and contains all of my dates, numbers, contacts and facts. It's never done me wrong, never crashed, never not started! I sync it one a week with my trusty laptop, charge it twice and week and it is my closest companion. Can't say enough good things about it!

Unlocked Cingular Treo 650

I was going to be living in Florence for a summer, so I convinced Cingular to give me the unlock codes for the phone. My plans fell through, but I was able to travel to South Africa and pick up a SIM card there and use my phone (bonus).

I have Opera Mini running as my browser rather than "Blazer" (it's crap). Snapper is my mail client rather than VersaMail (it's even more crap). I pay in the neighborhood of $149/month for unlimited data and crazy minutes (ugh).

Sadly, Cingular's network is SLOW (I'm moving to Verizon next month where it's faster and cheaper), and the phone is buggy and crashes frequently. After a lifetime of Palm products, I may have to go to Windows Mobile. Even though the new low-end Treo 680 just came out, I doubt that it or the 700p has resolved the OS instabilities.

Sidekick 3 on the awful T-Mobile network. I also have a SLVR on the Cingular network for those times when I have no signal on the sidekick.

The Treo 650 on the less-than-stellar Sprint PCS Network.

Is anyone really happy with their network?

I use an old-school LG VX 7000. Good camera for it's age (640x480), fast and easy to use UI, visual call and message indicator, audible connection notice, as well as picture and video messaging. I've had this phone for so long that the buttons are starting to stick! If it was still available for purchase, I'd totally recommend it.

Blackberry 7290-- Love it-- never use a laptop again-- it has my email and internet access-- I'm with Cingular, coverage is good, bluetooth works well, and just need a speakerphone to make it outstanding--

I have a Samsung A920 and it is awesome! Long battery life and great clarity with both camera and calls. I don't watch tv on it, but I can. I don't listen to the Mp3 player, but I could and it is great!

I've got a Motorola E815. The phone absolute sucks: it randomly deletes phone numbers; when I put it in my pocket it always manages to get into silent mode; the camera lens fills up with dust; the UI sucks; and quite possibly the worst thing is the *&*%ing network it's on. Verizon blows, everytime I see one of those "most reliable network" commercials I want to puke. I'm done with Motorola, I had good luck with LGs in the past: if Apple doesn't come out with a phone soon I'm eating the early termination fee from Verizon and getting a new plan and phone somewhere else.

I use a Nokia 9300 communicator. I don't live in the states so it doesn't matter who my service provider is. I'm a poweruser and I love every aspect of the 9300. the only bad thing about it is the battery, but I've been using it for over a year intensively so that's probably my bad. Its not too big as most people would think. One of the best things about it is that it's very masculine and no-one else has one.

sony 810i w/ 2GB MS. I love this phone, I just hope I don't lose it!

I'm using the Treo 650 and couldn't be happier. I purchased one of the last revised models that came out so I'm not suffering from the issues the earlier models had. It's not as thin or light as some others, the Motorola Q for example, but I like the fact that it feels well-built.

I use the Katana Black from Sanyo and Sprint. I love it though some of the features are lacking. I equate it to the hot blond bimbo girlfriend... it's amazingly sexy and always draws comments from people, but the features just aren't all there.

I have an LG "The V." I dig the fact that I have a full qwerty keyboard but the phone is just f'ing huge! When I ordered it online, I had no idea how big this thing was.

I'm running a Samsung A920. Great batter life (charge once every 3 days or so). Okay camera. Loading mp3's can be a chore. Overall a really solid phone.

I use a Nokia 8800. Steel is great. Love it. Had it for over a year now. Works in Asia as well as here in Canada. The main reason I bought it was because it would work in Asia. As for the price, you get what you pay for. Quality workmanship.

Just switched from the Treo 650 on Cingular to the new HP hw6945. I am digging the change to WM5; I see lots more capability in WM than in PalmOS; but Palm definately has better ease of use.

The HP is about the same size as the Treo, and has slick wifi, which makes use around the office easy. Its got GPS also, but I haven't found a legit use for it yet. The only complaint so far is speaker volume for both normal audio and for speakerphone.

I have a new Sony Ericsson W850i. These came out in the UK last week. Excellent user interface, 2nd generation Walkman software, 2MP camera, light, 3G (UMTS), 320 x 240 screen in landscape / portrait, 1GB MemoryStick included in the box. It is brilliant so far. I used to have a V3, but I wasn't that impressed with it. It wasn't reliable, and the UI sucked. I am curious as to what network deals people get in the US and Europe. I am on Orange, and upgraded for the phone. I got 550 any network minutes, and unlimited text messages, and 3 'magic numbers' (always free, 1 every 6 months), on an 18 month contract for £25 per month. It was supposed to be £35, but as I was an existing customer I got a discount.

Unbranded w810i through Cingular.
Great phone as everyone mentioned. Only faults in my opinion include video playback (for whatever reason, you cannot play video at the phone's fullest screen resolution, which is only a slight annoyance), the phone can become very sluggish when using a memory stick (but maybe this is to be expected, I'm not sure) and I really don't like the absense of a lens cover for the camera.

I have a K800i, I love it, amazing reception and it has one of the best cameras ive seen on a phone. The flash could have better distance but in anycase it is a phone first.

Cingular 3125. It's a Smartphone with very few bugs. I used to have the buggy MPx220 from Motorola and was pleasantly surprised when the 3125 came out. Not only is it a slim flipphone with obvious influences from the RAZR in shape, but it also has a large outer screen with selectable options for time display (including an analog clock), external buttons for the WMP mp3 player application, has a key design also taken from the RAZR and SLVR with similar lighting... It also runs Windows Mobile 5.0 and has full compatibility with bluetooth headsets and car kits including voice calling. It has microSD expandable memory and is easy to sync with Microsoft Outlook for your calendar of booty calls. The internet service is very rapid and the built in camera is at a high enough resolution for me... cough cough... one to send naughty photos of onesself to mistresses et cetera via MMS. The ear piece speaker is very clear and loud and the clarity of the microphone is with great quality (another bug I hated about the MPx220).

The End.

I use a Nokia 3285, with phone cards.

No camera, no internet, no text messaging, no colour screen.

It works, don't need to pay any monthly fee, that's about it.

i use a moto slvr, and it looks pretty but doesn't work that well. i constantly lose calls. might be a bad unit, but then again, it might not be. does look pretty cool though.

I am on a Samsung a950. Its not pretty, but it works. OK size, good battery life, and it can stand up to drops well. I gotta move on to something better, probably a Blackberry 8800 when that comes out, but I am stuck on Verizon. Nothing makes me more mad than CDMA!

SE W800i on KPN (dutch telco). I like the phone; dislike the form factor (yuck on the orange accents). I like the form factor of the RIZR. I'll wait for a few months before buying a new one...

I have an old-school LG VX3100 which dates back to 2004. It's taken its fair share of bumps and spills and even has its plastic covering wearing away yet its still making the same quality calls 2 years later.

Samsung SGH 307 It's old, but it's tiny & fits in my front pocket easily. Lots of functions. It's been lightly abused but it's a ROCK.

Nokia 6230b, US Cingular.
+Fantastic reception, even at 1 bar +Pocket-sized, but with comfortable heft +Excellent speakerphone and sound quality. Decent, if clunky, mp3 player. If I get the firmware flashed, I could put a 2 GB MMC card in it. I have the pop-port adapter so I can use my Sennheiser headphones with it.

+My wife and I text constantly throughout the workday, and the T9 keeps up pretty well. It's easy to add words.

-The VGA camera is a bit disappointing unless outdoors in bright sunlight, and has no zoom or flash.
-No SSL support in the e-mail client
-MMC format is pretty rare these days, conspicuously absent from retail outlets. Should have gone with SD.
-Screen size is 128 x 128, fair quality, but just too danged small for internet use.

I love love love this phone, but after 2 years, I'm ready to move on, perhaps to a nifty new Treo...

Have a Motorola SLVR (Cingular) , Sound Quality is good but reception sucks. Thought I would use the ITunes part and don't, I go back to my Ipod for that. The Paint and Chrome on the center button are starting to flake off. Good thing work bought it.

Ray

I use Sidekick 3 AND I HATE IT !!! But where can you get internet, Phone, Email & a Full Keyboard all in one convenient little package . . . Somebody save me !!!

Blackberry 8100 Pearl.

Suretype keyboard is a little small and awkward at first, but after using it for a few days you get the hang of it and only rarely need to input words that it doesn't recognize. It's prediction of words is pretty accurate, I have no trouble with words like 'globalization,' though typing the name Kelly results in Jelly, requiring a quick correction. Overall, typing with Suretype is not a drawback.

The phone also works great for syncing with Outlook, managing contacts, inputing appointments and meetings, etc.

Bottom line: This phone is a good choice for anyone that sees a full-fledged pocket-pc as overkill for their needs.

I just bought the new Motorola KRZR, the new RZR type of phone. So far I'm enjoying it, although I didn't spring for the V-Cast features that they're trying to push because I just don't need that kind of thing. But the phone is quite light, sleek, and durable from what I can tell thus far.

I'm using an original sidekick color (aka sidekick 1) from tmobile. the only reason is because my sk2 died and i don't have enough money for the 3.

pros: better keyboard.
cons: bad reception, scroll is broken.

Im using a Motorola L7... nice machina...

Ordering an unlocked Nokia E50 today. Looking forward to having a slim smartphone. Read some good things about this phone. Should work nicely with my existing cingular (old AT&T) service.

Motorola Q. Cool look, very mediocre phone.

Samsung T509 (like the Moto L7/SLVR)

I'm using the Sony w810i, couldn't be much happier with it unless it cost me a little less. Definitly a great phone with a ton of features. Having not replaced my broken ipod yet I've been using the MP3 feature almost non stop, and with a gig of space I've got more than enough space to load up all my new music plus some old favourites. It also has a number of pretty much useless features such as the Music DJ which I used the first day I had it and not once after. Another complaint is that you can't set mp3s as ringtones, or at least I haven't figured it out. All in all I recommend it.
Peace Uncrate.

I am using a Sidekick II (T-Mobile obviously). My previous phones were a LG vx8900 & treo 650, both verizon. The LG was cool but verizon charges too much for data. The treo was a nice phone but it was too bussiness for me. The sidekick plan is really a good deal, i know the phone doesnt have all the best features, but it does what i need. I am a heavey texter and the browser lets me get directions and directory assistance via the web.

I am using a BB 7100t unfortunately. I was duped into believing that there was an included IM program and that you could use SMS for IM messages. All programs for the BB platform require a data plan. Oh and this stupid phone has crashed (OS) 2 times. Both times I had to send it back to T-Mo for a replacement. I am dying for T-mo to offer the Nokia E70.

I Currently use the Nokia N73, and i am loving the camera function... i think this phone is awesome, and i would reccomend it to everyone

I'm using the Motorola v710 on Verizon; been using it for a little over two years now. Good phone, but I don't ask a whole lot of my phone: a level of indestructability, small footprint (mine's a brick compared to the RAZR, but it was relatively small when I bought it), bluetooth, good voice dialing, and reception in most parking garages.

I am using a Motorola A1200, also known as the Ming. This has to be one of the best phones I have owned, and I have had a lot, the sound quality is great, the looks are great, and the hackibility is great as well.

I use a motorola SLVR V7, it's a great phone for me. Through cingular it's nice because it doesn't have all it's features disabled like bluetooth etc.. like I hear other carriers frequently do. I upgraded from a very old nokia phone to this, so it was a huge jump in technology. Haven't had any problems with it so far, the itunes on it is great, use bluetooth for all kinds of transfers and DUN as well.

Sony Ericsson W600i

I've got a Treo 650... until I can get a Treo 680. Best phone I've ever had, and trust me I've had MANY. I used to trade phones every 6 months the latest.

HTC TyTN .. I am a former Blackberry user with not one complaint about them. It finally fell too hard, hee hee, so I opted for a windows mobile ensemble; since I use Exchange and everything else Microsoft. Ordered unit overseas, packaged with 2 GB microSD card. Popped in my Cingluar sim card and overall really impressed except for inability of our outside IT company to configure Active Sync with Exchange wirelessly. Cingular just says that it is not sold by them and therefore won't work with/support it. I haven't seen the new upgraded device after the 8125 from Cingular but I have heard mine is much more sturdy. Cut to the chase, sweet screen and backlight keyboard, great camera-bilities, wi-fi works better than my laptop, front videocamed call button is about to be remapped, installed Skype but don't know anyone to use it or video with. Trying applications and clicking around like a jackrabbit, I say battery-out-restart required about twice every 5 days .. Blackberry NEVER any crashes, but no toys with that.

I use a macho phone - the cingular 8125. a very strong phone with confident features and capabilities. It is the phone that we use in our organization, Mas Macho, and is the number phone amongst our members.

Sony Ericsson w800i. Best phone I have ever owned. Here is a basic rundown:

Likes:
Great Call quality
Generous Storage included (512MB Card)
Great (for a phone) camera
MP3 player easy and functional
Aesthetically pleasing
Nice headphones/headset
Can do almost anything with files
Slick interface

Dislikes:
Not Quad Band
Proprietary storage (MS Pro Duo)
Camera noisy (again, a camera phone)
Camera somewhat slow
Music Software awful (I just drag and drop)
Expensive

I got the Cingular 3125 "Star Trek." I echo the two users above who also have it. Great form factor, great screen(s), Windows Smartphone 5.0 syncs effortlessly. Not what you would want if you want to do serious emailing due to lack of qwerty keyboard, but for general email checking it's great. I'm very happy with it.

Using the SE S710a here. This is such an amazing phone that even though it's been dropped and busted I'm still holding on to it until something as good or better comes out. I love SE's user interface so I wouldn't switch to something like a Motorola or LG.

I use a Motorola V180 with Cingular service. I do not like the way Motorola implements the address book. For every phone number it assigns a name, so if a person has 4 numbers they are your address book 4 times. Having to sort through all those names is not fun. Pluses on the phone is no camera and works world wide. Where I live is a Cingular "bad" spot.

I use the Motorola Q for my Verizon account. It is a great slim phone/pda unit. Has a windows mobile edition os which is so so. The battery life sucks and has a few quirks now and then but nothing as bad the the old Treo 650 I used to. Overall I would give it 9/10.

I use Samsung A900 for my Sprint account. Great slim phone. I just wanted a small phone for the phone and bluetooth features only. Didn't need any fancy camera, mp3 playback etc. So this does all I need and more. Great screen and good batt life.

Its a great phone ! Doesn't have WiFi though !

im usiong the Sanyo KATANA. ive been with sprint for a very long time and i dont see myself changig networks for any reason.

that and i hate motorola phones

Samsung A930 for work - decent phone with MP3 capabilities. Fits well in my pocket and has comfortably large keypad. Bluetooth, microSD slot, camera and video.

Nokia 6230 for personal use - probably the best phone I've owned to date. Can transfer music via Bluetooth, miniSD space (though you have to remove the battery to get to it), okay camera.

I have been using the Verizon Moto KRZR K1m for a week now and it is pretty slick looking. I haven't added any mp3s yet but I am looking forward to it. There are a few drwabacks though, the front case is glasslike and it gets fingerprints every time you touch it and the speaker is on the back of the phone so when you are holding it your hand covers the speaker.

SO far though I really like it.

Nokia 6256i on VZW. it's their tri-mode, full BT, sleeper of a phone that the general public never got told about. it's kinda bulky, but is very hackable and gets stellar reception and battery life. not too fancy, but i love having google local on it.

Motorola RAZR V3 (GSM) - Motorola retail package from europe. (I use it on Fido in Canada)

I'm quite happy with it.. since my firmware isn't locked down or limited by my carrier. It could have better battery life when using it with a bluetooth headset.

I've been using the Motorola Razr since a few months since it was released. I just really like being able to keep it in my back pocket without worry of damage. It's compact and pretty strait forward. My biggest gripe is that it's very hard to hear who you're talking to when there's mid to high noise in the area.

Black Moto Razer
one of the first to have it. i ordered from ebay, made in underground night time factory shift in asia.

RAZR v3 with Verizon. Verizon's software sucks - turning off bluetooth transmissions to force users to buy their sucky songs is crap -- but I love the phone. It's screen is large, bright and easy to read. The phone is slim enough that I don't feel like I'm carrying a brick on my belt. And the sound quality is good. My only other complaint: It's too easy to hit the side button that turns off the ringer. I miss a lot of calls because of that thing.

user-pic

Nokia N93.. Awesome phone.. Great Camera.. Unfornuately VERY LARGE...

Interface is just like any symbian.. so nothing special..

I use a RAZR with service from tmobile. The form-factor of the phone is great, but the software is not great.

Sony Ericsson K800i, of course. What else is worthy enough for me to use?

I'm using the Nokia 6280, terrible, worst battery life ever and the dictionary doesnt keep your custom words. not impressed at all!

I have a Nokia 9300i.
I guess I'm sort of a power user. I use my communicator for web-based services as well as email and faxes(yes, some idiots still use faxes in Finland). It also serves as a calender and a notebook.
By far the best one I ever had. Only complaint is the size. It is a tad too heavy to carry around in your pocket.

After months for deciding what phone to get, anything but razor since everyone had it. I came across Cingular 8125. It was a little pricy (not as pricy as sony Pocket-PCs), but it did what a cell phone is suppose to and then some. I will agree that it takes a little time getting use to, but when you do, its the most helpful thing ever! I give Uncrate its credit for recommending the phone, since they were the final push for me getting the phone...thank you gentlemen. Video and audio quality are great. Once you learn the shortcuts with the phone, its a breeze getting around it. Battery life is awesome, i actually watched the whole Snatch movie on it and had battery to spare. It is a little big compared to other phones, but we are men, hence this site.

The Blackberry Pearl- This is one of the best phones that I have ever had. The Treo is nice but I was reseting the thing atleast once a day. The Pearl camera is great and it is very user friendly.

I have the beautiful SonyEricsson K610i in evening red. Have had Nokia the last 8 years and thought that changing brand would be a horrible thing, but I have absolutely no regrets what so ever.

I have Samsung SGH-X475. No camera, no Bluetooth, no frills for sure. I've had it for a year and it's really held up well considering how many times I've dropped it, how I keep it in my pocket with other objects some times, and how I find opening and closing the battery charging port to be strangely satisfying. I do it hundreds of times a day.
I want to replace the phone with probably a smart phone, such as the Tmo MDA, or possibly the MOTORIZR. I haven't decided yet...

Using a few

Nokia E61
Nokia N73
Sony Ericsson W600
Sony Ericsson K790a
Sony Ericsson K800 (Don't ask)

Verizon LG - it makes the calls i want i'm happy

I'm currently using a Cingular 8125 aka HTC Wizard.

Wow, all these comments and on one said a cricket??? That's what we have it's so old that while text messaging is available with our plan at no charge the phone is pre-text messaging so we can't use it anyways. The point in that is that we have dropped it, banged in and who knows what else! It's like a timex takes a licking and keeps on calling. We have not paid hundreds of dollars for features and funtions, bells and whistles on phones that break or are just too hard to figure out. 50.00 4years ago THAT is quality, reliablity and dependablity all rolled into one.

Nokia 8801. It looks nice and has an OS that has been proven solid for years. It's much better than Motorola's excuse for a cell phone operating system.

Anyone with a RAZR who's accused me of buying a phone strictly for its aesthetic qualities is obviously hypocritical.

God, I hate cell phones...anyway, I was using a Motorola v220 (Cingular) until it was wrecked by a lightning strike while recharging. I'm 2 months away from my "upgrade" date thru Cingular, so in the meantime, I purchased an el cheapo pay-as-you-go deal from Alltel with a $30 Nokia candy bar. I haven't gotten it yet, so I can't comment on it, but I'm waiting until Cing. gets their version of the Blackberry Pearl (with push-to-talk) in 2007 to swap out...

Motorola i415 from Boost Mobile. I was sick of paying $60 month for a lot of minutes from Verizon that I didn't use. Plus, my Motorola v710 was Bluetooth crippled thanks to Verizon. A class action lawsuit vs Verizion for the v710 allowed me to get the $300 I paid for it and end my contract with no fees. The Boost Mobile (Nextel) is ok, I actually drop less call than when I was with Verizon. Pay as you go is great if you don't use a crap load of minutes. I average around $35/month plus no contract is great. The phone is very lackluster, but for $50, I'm not complaining.

Cingular's Blackberry 8700c. Ligther than my previous TMobile 7290 and great screen resolution. The keys are a little closer together but great product. QWERTY keypad is more preferable than the 7xxx series SMARTTYPE keypad. The TMobile 8700g looks the best in dark blue.

currently using the BlackBerry Pearl (8100) with t-mobile. got it about..2 weeks ago on like sept. 30th or w/e. i had a silver moto razr and hated it! it fell in a toliet when i was folding up my pants when i was getting ready for soccer training. i went to t-mobile and paid $200 for it with a 2 year extention. a brand new unlocked phone was out of the question. being in high school...i now have insurance on it because the guy talked my dad into getting it. anyways back to my pearl! i love it! texting was hard for about 2 days and now im texting like a mad man! still have to get a microSD card so i can get mp3s on it. great battery life, simple navigation especially with the trackball, and tons of looks! everyone is like wow this is a blackberry!!! also because im in high school everyone has to have the newest stuff...im getting a lot of attention when ever im using it and someone almost always asks what it is. anyways...for $200 with 2 year extention...not that bad guys pick one up if u have the money

I've been using a Nokia E61 since August. Comments thus far:

Excellent screen, sound
Good bundled software
Had to buy 'conduits' from a third party to sync with Mac
The keys are too small, and rounded so fingers slip
It's *way* too big
A camera would be nice
Also it would be useful to be able to reset choices on main menu (all stupid things I never use, while putting things like the currency converter and notes on the front screen would be useful).
Excellent 'tabbed' approach to get through various email accounts

I'm also using a Nokia 6280 as my travel phone (I spend weekends in another country)
Respectable camera
good keypad
Nokia interface is good for SMS (Sony Eric.. the best so far)
Humidity can easily get inside (sweaty golf game)
Slide mechanism now sticks
All ringtones are annoying (ordinary phone please!)
Stupid conduit converted names to last name first

nokia n80! i love it. it's full of features such as BT and wifi. it's definitely one of the best smartphone. i only wished it had the luxury styling of the 8801.

i am currently using 3 cells..
Nokia 8800
*good looking but lack funtion, very eye catchy, sturdy feel, doesnt feel lik a toy, pretty good reception and voice.

Motorola A1200
*Smart phone,2MP camera, use it for school and work, touch screen, good looking and functional, but it's a little big!!

Motorola K1
*Nice looking phone 2MP camera, slim and very portable.. good phone for people that loved the RAZR

Nokia 6236i (verizon)

No bells an whistles. Its a very austaire mobile. I love Nokia and their software is very intuitive, I think. Little camera that as a plus takes photos and video clips, but I dont use them that much. My only complaint is that it has no games (which I like to play when I'm bored) but I think that its verizons doing.

Blackberry 8700 Cingular - my leash.

3 phones: (God forbid if someone couldn't reach me)

RIM Blackberry 8700g
> ULTIMATE work device, great software, good and easy keyboard, indestructable.
> TOO BULKY (can't wait for an update), no camera, wish I had the Nokia E61 software.
*Tried the Blackberry Pearl, but they forgot to make keys that can actually type instead of feeling like you have a toy phone.

Vertu Constellation
> It was a gift, COOL, PRETTY, Concierge and good speaker sound.
> $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Motorola PEBL (CHROME)
> So cool I had to have it, cool flip-open, design, voice dial feature (I have to pretend I'm English because that's the language of the software).
> Motorola software lags and inefficient, scratches easily.

I F**KING LOVE T-MOBILE!!!

i have a samsung A920 for sprint. it takes great pictures, web browsing is pretty good too, great signal, bluetooth capabilities. and best of all, its all in a simple flip design :)

Nokia E61 on T-Mobile w/5000 any time minutes for $100 per month.

My favorite feature - automatically syncs to my outlook (appointments, meetings, notes, Tasks/to-do list) via my laptop's bluetooth dongle while I'm in the office. No need for cradle, wire or other connector so my appointments and to-do lists are always current. Kudos to Nokia!

Had this feature previoysly on my Nokia 8800 and despite having a touch pad on my Sony Ericsson P990 the auto sync is hands down my favorite feature. Unfortunately the 8800 suffered from EXTREMELY small keys and no quick volume control.

The other features I like are WiFi, Blackberry connect and Mail for Exchange (which I have set to pick up corporate e-mail from from 8AM-5PM).

Despite the missing camera (I personally don't need it) the E61 (or Cingular's watered down E62) is in my opinion the best phone for the money. Blackberry can't hold a candle to it. It's feature rich and has amazing battery life to boot.

I realize the E61 is not for everyone. I also like the palm, the Sony Ericsson and the Hermian, but my money is on the E61, future versions of the E61 and Nokia.

vx5200

just started using an unlocked bb 8100 pearl on cingular.... i love the damn thing... one word comes to mind: svelte.

its a sexy lil' beast.

sidekick3 from tmobile.....best phone ever

A Samsung SGH500D - looks good, but what a CRAPPY interface - everything takes longer than using my old Sony Ericsson. For example a text from directory, you can't use the number that arrives... You either have to memorize it or write it down on a scrap of paper! that sucks! The SE allowed me to access it directly and dial + there are a host of other badly designed interface features. Next phone will definitely be another SE!

Using Motorola PEBL

Pro: Tactileness, nice clock, has a quality feel with refined hardware details. Pretty, everyone wants to hold it.

Cons: Camera is REALLY bad, with a painful interface. Seems to drop bluetooth a lot, but I've only tried a lower end motorola headset.

I use the Sony-Ericcson k790i, and overall I am not too impressed. I had to exchange the phone three times before getting one that worked... First one arrived with a huge scratch across the body of the phone, the second had a non-functioning speaker, and the third had a headset port that did not work right. Now that I have one that works - I am somewhat pleased; though I am not very satisfied with the photo quality. Now I am patiently waiting for the Nokia N95 to be released!

Motorola SLVR L2. I don't need iTunes on my phone; I have an iPod. I don't need a cameraphone; I have a real camera that takes much better pictures. It works all over the world, has great battery life, looks great, and feels great. The only drawback is the weird OS. It needs too many clicks to send a text message, and the D-Pad has only two of four buttons programmable. Little bits aside, I love this phone.

Moto V3 RAZR - Telenor (Formerly Vodafone) in Sweden. I use a pay as you go method that's popular here...you can buy minutes anywhere including any ATM machine. Punch in your ode, how much you want to put on and you're good to go in about 10 seconds. Works great. Reception is great just about anywhere

As for the phone, the menu needs some serious work. It's UI sad and clunky...the biggest complaints are it's lack of full sync with OSX (Sony Ericssons are much better at that) and the fact that every address book entry you have gets it's own place on the phone. So, if you have a contact with a home, mobile, email, fax and work number - there are 5 entries just for that person! takes forever to find a number!

The wonderful Sony Ericsson W800i..

Allen.H

the spectaculous SE w810i !!!

I have a Sony Ericsson M600i. Due to early onset of Alzheimers (my own diagnosis), the calendar functions are very useful.

im usin se810i at the moment, this phone is really functional but i dislike that he cant remember shorcuts.

I use a Toshiba A5511T, which is not too impressive... except that I live in Japan, where the companies actually provide great service and let you out of contracts for about $30. I can watch TV, and use a GPS-based voice direction service to find my way to any address.

And yes, I'm a bastard for gloating.

Samsung T809 for me. Couldn't be happier. It's totally slick, I get complements on it almost daily, and it's all Matrix Neo when I slide it open.

Motorola E815. Great phone! It's not the smallest or slickest phone, but it works well as a *phone*. It has generally good reception and sound quality, even with a bluetooth headset. I don't subscribe to EVDO data service, but those who do say it works great on this phone.

Using a motorola v3 and is keeping well I must say.I dont know what the other guys are complaining about(obviously low memory is not good but the v3i takes care of that)but its a pretty good phone for it to have sold 50 million of them.

Qtek 9100 (aka HTC Wizard aka Cingular 8025 aka T-mobile Vario). A nice PDA/Smartphone with WM5 on it. It has pretty much every connectivity option on it which I love and the essential slide out QWERTY keyboard. But after a year its time to upgrade, the new HTC Hermes has come out which is basically the same but with everything upgraded 2-4x. The new version also includes HSDPA.

Sony Ericsson K790i. Its been 2 weeks now and I'm loving it!! Its more like a camera with a phone feature... 3.2 mp rocks but obviously won't replace my 5 mp Sony DSC T-1 :) Quite amazed by the speaker strength too considering it isn't as dedicated as the SE W series. Didn't opt for any pink option (dunno if there is such available, 'sides i think its a bit insulting to assume that females will only love pink). After being a Motorola fan for 3 years (the V66, C138, and most recently C168), def will add SE to my like-list!!

Motorola V3i. I really like the new design, it looks much prettier than the V3 model, and it's a bit smarter.:)

I was pretty limited on the choices I had in selecting a phone since my employer was flipping the bill. Never-the-less, I ended up with a Nokia 6620 (http://www.nokiausa.com/phones/6620). At first I was regretting the decision but a couple years later I am still unable to find a reason to off this phone. The reception has been the best I have ever known. The large dislpay is still mostly unrivaled even today. The Camera is so, so but the ability to place a large multimedia stoarage card makes up for it in that you can add some photos of your own for show and tell type crap. It has been working spot on with my Apple through bluetooth. I have both my contacts lists in sync at all times. While you can't listen to MP3's with headphones, it does allow you to chop up your favoarite song riff and place it as your ring tone. The little directional pad knob has held up well over the past couple years. Buttons are still strong and this phone has been dropped many, many times. All in all I might sound liked a whipped boyfriend but I still am unable to find a phone that one, work will pay for, and two, beats my Nokia 6620.

n6280...it's an alright phone. not the best i've owned but does the job - 2mpx camera, fairly big screen etc. the gallery is way too slow when you're trying to scroll through photos, can't use the 2nd camera for anything but video calls, the dictionary doesn't remember all your custom words. that and everyone has them now.

would never buy a sony ericsson phone again - i've returned 6 (?!) of them so far. had a t60 or something....kept breaking and then i bought a t630 when they came out...broke while i walked from the store to my car. returned that, the next one wouldn't get coverage, the one after that just didn't work...and the one after that didn't get coverage either.

wouldn't mind a n80, but they're way too chunky. who knows what i'll get next.

I use a Nokia 1110 - monochrome chic.

Motorola Q. Great phone. Slim look, runs Windows Mobile, mp3 player, miniSD slot. Absolutely love it. Only drawback is the battery life. Must buy extended battery if you're going to use the Q.

After being subjected to a Samsung SPH-i700 (worst. phone. ever.) and getting fed up waiting for the Q, I switched to Cingular and picked up the Cingular 2125 (also known as the HTC Faraday.) It's been a great phone and a pretty good smartphone. The form factor is more phone than PDA, but it still has Outlook's appointments and contacts -- the essentials for me. It's not great for sending emails (unless you're a whiz at T9) but receiving them is reasonably usable. Sound quality coming and going is great, reception is great, battery life is fantastic.

Black cingular razr.

3 complaints:

1) going to mobile web sites is a huge pain in the ass and they didn't know how to fix it: launch their MEdia net, then search for google, select the real google homepage, then you can go to URL to see other sites. No idea why this is a 'feature.'

2) dust under screen

3) can't use just any usb charging cord with it, thought it'd be easy to charge on the road

I use a Motorola SLVR L7. I love this phone mostly because of its size, but it has many handy features too. The iTunes functionality hits #2 on my list of appreciated features. The phone comes with a binaural hedset w/mic that also doubles as earphones for the iTunes. The phone only holds 100 songs, but that is plenty for those 20 minute bus rides to work. I also appreciate the ability to use the card's included 512MB Micro SD card to store documents and other files. Just plug it in to any computer with USB and you're connected. The built-in camera is ok, but not spectacular. I do like its zoom function though.

The "calendar" option is a little tough to get to, but once you're in it's easy to use. If you acquire the Motorola Tools software, you can sync up appointments with Outlook, but even more importantly, access the pictures and videos you take with the camera. This way, you don't need to use up expensive data charges.

I guess most important is the quality of the phone call and I'd rate this phone as the best I've ever had. Calls are always clear and plenty loud enough with volume to spare. The above-mentioned headset is excellent and the binaural functionality makes for pleasant use.

I would like to see the search feature for contacts be simplified a little. It's a little cumbersome right now.

I'd give this phone a 9.5 out of 10.

Peace

Nokia e60, great phone

ive got a really simple phone (still under a family plan), Nokia 3120b. i dont think they're still making it. i love it though. the menus are really nice, nice ringtones, small, and super battery life.
wear and tear is good too.

I'm the proud owner of a Sony Ericsson K800i.

Excellent phone overall. Great user interface.
Have not dropped a call yet. (using tmobile usa)
The only gripe I have with the phone is that call volume is rather low at the highest setting.
3.2 mp camera is as good as they come, you would not even guess the pictures were taken on a camera phone. Or is it phone camera, or phone slash camera, or camera that makes phone calls.
Anyhow, great phone, highly recommended if you're in the market for an unlocked smart phone.

Like everyone else, I have a RAZR. It's done everything that I've asked of it. That new Treo looks tempting as a next phone though...

Right now I'm rockin a Samsung D606, definately catching looks everywhere I am. Couldn't be happier.

I use a Motorola SLVR. I don't mind it, it is a little boring in GUI but I still don't mind it.

I've been using a T-Mobile MDA, like I see a few of the others on this page have. It's a perfect phone for people who need a QWERTY keyboard. It's got a nice shape to it and a very crisp screen. The fact that it runs Windows typically makes it so I can do anything I need on the go.

I use Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone. Model is HTC Tornado (Qtek 8310 a.k.a. iMate SP5). It's all I ever wanted from a phone, and more - email etc.

i just got a SE w810i and its the best cell ive ever had (so far). i really dont think theres a phone available in the US that can compare to it right now.

I'm using a Samsung T809 (black, T-mobile) and I love it!

Got it for FAR, bought a 1 gig micro SD card for $40, bought a headphone adapter off of ebay and it's a great MP3 player as well as a phone.

I use a Nokia N80!

I have a RAZR (black) V3m(?) with Cingular. Above someone said connecting to the internet is a pain. It's true, but once I downloaded opera for mobile, I can connect without a problem. It still takes an extra step to connect to any place (open opera, then got to my bookmarks), but I haven't had any problems surfing the web with the RAZR.

You're looking for a candybar cell phone with bluetooth, an MP3 player and a decent camera: get the Sony Ericsson W810i. I just bought it and it integrates nicely with my iMac. I wish I could play my iTunes songs on it (purchased on iTunes) but apart from that, the phone is ace. It replaces my Sony Ericsson T610.

I have a Motorola PEBL. I love the damn thing. The reception isn't fantastic, but its so cool looking, I don't really care.

I'm currently using the Blackberry 7100 and I have found it to be a more than satisfactory melding of phone and PDA. My only gripe centers around the slowness and expense of Cingular wireless data transfer.

I have the LG Chocolate. It has some great functionality but the touch sensitive buttons can be a real pain in the arse. It would have been perfect if they had made the touch buttons tactile - like an iPod button. I always end up setting off the buttons when I use my voice mail. Hitting a delete button and then putting the phone back to your face sets them off.

The music player is cool but once again a potentially great product is ruined by the US carrier making some proprietary application or piece of hardware that you have to buy or use.

This phone would be perfect if you could customize its OS and use standard headphones.

SIDEKICK for Grown ups: The T-Mobile MDA is currently on my hip. This sleek lookin phone offers:

Windows mobile 5.0 (&) loads of applications that can be downloaded with of course the try before you buy method (&) a crystal clear high res. screen (&) a TOUCH SCREEN for the lazy (&) a slide feature that horizontally exposes one hell of a qwerty keyboard for those emailers/texers (&) Wi Fi access (&) of course your up to date "normal features" MP3, 1.3 meg cam, video, voice record, and a mini san disc.

And the not so goods:
well the edge/GPRS system isnt as compadible as some would like to have for AOL AIM but does the job.

2. If you are a clutz with a budget be careful because this phone an be like a bar of soap when handling it.

3. The applications are pricy...but worth every penny!

4. Frequent reseting (1 per 2-3 days)

5. Got to buy a decent mini disc 1gb-2gb if you want music, movies, and apps which is another 100-200 bones

Overall: 4 out of 5
If your a "rookie" technically challenged do me a favor and yourself and buy a phone priced under $50. If you want to be like everyone else buy a RAZR just dont come crying when you get carpel tunnels after texting. Now if you want more BANG for your buck be like me and the rest of the population in Europe and Asia "with phone sense" get a MDA (Vario for you easterners). WOW is what the fellas say when i bust it out and "Is that a MDA in your pocket or you happy to se me" is what the ladies say.

Keep up the good work Uncrate.
Sincerely one faithful a** viewer keepin it real!

ooOO BONES OOoo

I have a Nokia 6680, similar to the 6682, which is the American version. Mine has a camera on the front also, which is useful for self-portraits. It has a huge screen, great camera, lots of storage, and I run Opera, Google Maps, and a ton of other useful apps on it. Don't seem to need WiFi right now. I kinda wish it had more RAM, cuz the Opera cache seems to crash it every so often...

Using the Cingular 2125, Windows Mobile 5 smartphone, and it's great. Stuck a 2GB mini-sd card in it, and in addition to the web and email and camera and all of the Outlook functions, it's like an ipod nano with video capability. And I'm more than willing to give up a qwerty keyboard for a smaller form-factor phone, it's an easy trade. Windows Mobile development is booming right now, and there are tons of cool programs and games, remote programs that let me stream media from my desktop, and lots of them are free if you know where to look. I highly recommend it, the only thing I don't like, or wish it had was stereo bluetooth headphone support. And there are some hacks out there that let you do it anyway, but it'd be nice to have it fully functional and supported. Hands down, best phone I've ever owned.

TREO 650, and I can't wait to get rid of it. The combination of cingular and treo is deadly....drops calls at an alarming rate.
Next time around, Verizon and anything else.

Treo 700p on Verizon. If I could get it, it'd be a 700wx, but the wx only exists on sprint.

Oh, and I prefer Cingular to VZW.

Motorola RAZR V3r (pearl gray GSM edition)

I like it much better than I thought I would. However, the interface is still somewhat laggy and the VGA camera is too low-res compared to other offerings.

Im using Motorola A1200 (white).

Pretty good phone, has most of pda functions (no wifi).

Motorola E815 (VZW)

The best phone verisuck ever offered. No crappy red multi colored UI, decent earpiece sound, and the camera did it's job. I'm fed up with verisuck and their removal of certain bluetooth features.

When I can, I'm dropping verizon and going with cingular and getting either the SLVR, KRZR, or the LG CU500.

well i am using the nokia 7380. It is nokias fashion line phone. Its bad ass, but not very functional. It doesnt have a keypad so you use everything like an i pod. I get compliments every where I go on it and I have only seen only 2 other people with it. but it was $430 smackers but i dont care its a super fine phone.

Blackberry 8700C on Cingular.

SHOCKED so few are using this gem. Camera, Shamera. Speakerphone rocks. So does graphics, keyboard, email, web, Texas Hold'Em.

Once you go blackberry, you never go...never mind.

I'm currently using the Nokia 7380. Its the thin Nokia stick from the fashion line of phones they have, this thing does not have a traditional keypad, rather it uses an ipod like wheel to select numbers or letters for entry and you tap a button in the middle of the scroll wheel for your selection. It draws everybody's attention but it takes time to text. Comes with a 2mp camera with flash which can also take video, 50mb internal memory, an mp3 player, and bluetooth. Only drawback is the amount of time it takes to text, but it basically has everything i want in a phone, and looks to kill.

nokia n91

with nokia 770 for web-browsing and im tasks...

I use a LG c1500 which is what most mobile phones aren't these days, a phone. No camera, IM, games, it is exactly what I need since I already have a the needed things for that with me (I.E. laptop and camera) so it's perfect for me. I got it for free from cingular but I looked it up on the LG webpage and I think its discontinued, great little phone, keep an eye out for one.

the wonderful, uncomparable, untouchable Samsung D807 !! Great phone...using it on a Rogers network ( I AM CANADIAN! ) and its an overall good phone, very sexy and stylish slider. great camera that takes high quality pictures and video, not bad mp3 player with some cool visualiztions and expanible memory (microSD). HUGE LCD screen that can light up a dark room and pictures look crystal clear on it.
6 out of 5

I have a Nokia 6265i slider phone, Telus Mobility. Best phone in years. Love 2MP camera, FM radio and MP3/AAC player. Lots of themes available to download, but Telus blocks ringtones not purchased from them and iSync won't work to sync my address book, and calendar on my iMac.

I have the Sony Ericson P990. I waited for it almost too long. I really like it, but you cant loose the feeling that it already feels a bit dated. They were to slow with getting it out. Speaking of slow, its unacceptably slow for a modern day cell phone. Luckily there's a hack to make it faster. Now we just wait for Sony Ericson to make use of that in any future software update.

A Sony ERicsson K750i. I've had it for a year and have talked 101 hours, written 5000 texts (SMS+MMS), and taken over 2000 photos. The camera is really nice in good light conditions!

i got the sexiest clamshell ever! the siemens-benQ AF51. god, its a nice phone, and especially for its price(60€!!prepaid). but, then again, it is nothing fancy. it has mms, sms, an organiser, can record small pieces of sound(17 sec) and thats just about it. but i don't need anything else anyways: i have a macbook pro15", this cellphone, a very good camera(eos 350D) and a wonderful 60gb videoipod.

now i just need a sexy trophy girlfriend, and i'll be complete:p

i use a blackberry 8700 from Cingular - best blackberry i have used, but would prefer a iPhone.

Had the Nokia 8800 for a year now. Beautiful, stylish phone, its just a shame about the battery life - it's a bit of a pain having to carry a spare one around with you.

All the features on the phone are very average indeed they are not in the same class as the Sony Ericsson K750's and above.

TREO 650, and I can't wait to get rid of it. The combination of cingular and treo is deadly....drops calls at an alarming rate.
Next time around, Verizon and anything else.

I've got a Motorola v325 from Verizon. It's one of the best cell phones I've ever used. Looks great, with a stainless front and back, and the edges are wrapped in black soft-touch paint. Outer bezel lights up blue when the phone is ringing. Feature-wise it's pretty basic, but it does have speakerphone and a decent camera. I also subscribe to Verizon's GPS service (VZNavigator) which is incredibly and suprisingly functional. I'm a Realtor, and use the GPS service daily. Hasn't failed me yet!

Sidekick 3, yo. It's more famous for its ghetto and/or celeb reputation, but it has the best keyboard of any pocketable handheld PDA phone. The apps are few, but cheap and very reliable. I have owned the SK1, SK1 color, SK2 and now the SK3... In the several years I've had them, I've only had to reset due to lock-up maybe two or three times. Compare that to any windows mobile device, where you're doign that many resets per week (or per day depending on your usage). I'm a geek and can log into my Linux boxes using SSH. And *nothing* matches the reaction people have when they see the switchblade flip action the first time, they treat you like some sort of wireless ninja.

I've got the Motorola k1m KRZR, for Verizon. So far, I'm pretty satisified with the phone in general. A couple of gripes that I have about it range from how easy the front smudges with fingerprints, to the utter lack of file organization in the mp3 player.

I understand the the front glass is going to collect fingerprints like a kid to candy here in a couple of weeks, so I guess that's not really a complaint. More of just the fact that it really is noticable.

As for the mp3 player, I think that not being able to use proper folders really is an oversight. Granted, I'm not using the software that Verizon has for $$$, just stuffing my microSD in to a card reader. I may be missing some benefits that the software provides, but I'm not ready to dish out the cash for it just yet. It seems that the player does not properly read ID3 v1/v2 tags at all. I can select by artist, by genre, whatever, and it does not pull up the songs properly. So, play all is the only feature that seems to work correctly. Again, not using the Verizon software, so take that with a grain of salt.

The EVDO in the phone is great, however. What a speed improvement over 1xRTT. Enough said there.

The keypad is taking a little getting used to, as I'm not used to the flat keys. I like how it's illuminated however, and that it's got a little light level sensor in it. The keypad lighting doesn't come on if there is sufficient light. Nice touch to save the battery, that's for sure.

As for the battery life of the phone, well, it's a typical Verizon phone. I work in the electrical construction industry, which puts me in some places on a daily basis where the phone coverage is less than ideal. The k1m seems to have about typical Verizon battery life: one work day, no matter how much or little you use it. Which is just fine with me, I've got a car and home charger, so there's juice available whenever I need it.

I currently use the Samsung SCH-a990. It's got a 3.2 megapixel camera in it, along with a micro-sd slot, for lots of extra storage. Altoghter it's pretty slick, and has a nice degree of styling to it. Not to big, but very functional. The nice flip action is great for photographs. Movies are decent too. The only negatives come from the Verizon service, which lock down many of the touted features it normally has, such as certain bluetooth functionality, the ability to use your own MP3's as ringtones, and the usual Verizon oppressive bit. This turns the functionality of what is a 500$ phone down to a comprable $300 or less. I'm switching carriers for my next phone, btw, to one that actually lets me use the tech I buy. Buy this for use on another carrier.

Nokia E61

Awesome smartphone, Big Screen, WLAN, QWERTY...

Only thing it misses is a camera

i roll the tmobile sidekick 3 (SK3) and love it. the keyboard is second to none and the honies love it.

I owned one of the first V3 RAZRs made...until this week. I absolutely hated how slow the phone was and how outdated the phonebook software was. I picked up a Blackberry Pearl 8100 from T-Mobile and i could not be happier. Very fast, intuitive to operate, and FULL of features.

I use a Motorola Q, it's OK.

Pros : good email, web, MMS capabilities, qwerty keyboard good

Cons : Slow, buggy software, crappy battery life

I use a Treo 700. Best phone I have ever owned. Reception is great, email and web connections are exceptional and the battery life is great for long road trips.

Sony Ericsson P900 - a nice fat heavy hog of a phone with a feature set and OS to match.

I get coverage when no one else can and the huge screen is great.

Now, perfection would be 1/3 the weight and thickness.... and a Hostess Ho-Ho.

I switched from your standard Blackberry to the Moto Q the day that baby came out. It's small and stylish with great coverage in NYC and excellent MS exchange integration, but the UI is crap. Thinking about moving back to a BBery Pearl, but never liked the sound quality of those phones. Thoughts?

Currently a Moto RAZR V3 (almost two years old)...

Bad: Cracked outside screen (hit the steering wheel getting into the car), lint under the screen, slow address book, lousy battery life.

Good: Great form factor, very good reception.

Had a Siemens SX-66, which I hated, Windows crashed all the time, seemingly most often when I was making a call, or during a call, worst battery management of any phone I have ever used.

Phone I miss the most: T610, last of the great Ericsson designed phones.

Future: I am looking at the Nokia E62, though it is missing the camera, and the WiFi of the E61, I am hearing good things about this phone, even if I have never been a Nokia UI fan (though I am looking forward to Series 60/Symbian UI).

I use a Treo 650. except the bulky form factor I accustomed to like it since it gives me the best near PC experience on the move.

Cool things that I like:

1. Gorgeous 320X320 screen
2. Fairly good Internet Experience
3. Good productivity software tiles
4. Long battery life even with heavy use
5. Very usable handy QWERTY keybord
and of course with threade SMS view...

Almost 2 years with a Samsung a670 and after many abuses, it has finally started to show signs of giving up the ghost - calls not registering, etc. It does what I need it to do though, make and receive calls and texts, and even has a cool camera that I barely use. Only gripe is that it seems to lose a lot of power when I turn it off and back on again.

I'm using a Sony Ericsson w600i, the walkman phone that swivels. I like it alot, no complaints, and it does everything i need it to. Wouldn't mind the w900 though.

user-pic

I just got the Chocolate LG phone a couple months ago. It's pretty haute. It's a perfect conversational piece with the ladies. They all want one. But, it's a bit over rated with it's functions. But I like it for now. cheers!

I have a RAZR. I find that I often misdial numbers due to the buttons on the keypad needing a lot of pressure. People are always saying I sound like Darth Vader when I talk to them on it. Also, my battery life really sucks. On the plus side, the other day I overhanded the fucker against a wall and it did not break.

I use a Sony W810i with a 2GB Memory stick duo.

I was running out of pocket space with an ipod and a phone so decided to "converge". Music player is not as good as ipod but still very functional. Nice to be able to send tunes to phone via bluetooth or send them to a friends phone likewise.

Camera is ok but doesn't handle low light very well.

UI is very good. I used to be a Nokia guy but this stacks up well. After 3 months of use I would even go so far as to say that the UI is better than Nokia. For instance, you can not only add your own words to the dictionary but also delete them.

Cheers,

D.

Been using a moto slvr l2 since May....
I have bounced around from a pebl to a treo 650....
I seem to go back to the L2...it is thin, solid and has a great speakerphone...

Maybe Apple will release an iPhone eventually huh.....

Blackberry 8700c (fully loaded). This is my 3rd Blackberry, first time with Cingular. Attributes: 1. Brilliant display 2. It can take a beating - for so long. Problems: 1. Numerous slips from the holster 2. Sound is iffy 3. No camera 4. No memory expansion 5. Cingular business accounts are inconvenient and repressive

When my 8700c finally crapped out I had to order a new one that had to be shipped. They would not let me walk into any Cingular and BUY a new one. Result: 3 days without a phone.

Now - with all that said, I AM buying another one.

I'm still using a Nokia 7650.
While battery life now is something like 8 hours (this is the third battery I bough...) it still works perfectly and has survived several accidends: dropped from the motorbike, stairs, knoks, water. Highlander :-)

I'm looking forward to replace it with a brand new N90 next month.

I've had my Motorola SLVR L7 through Cingular for about four months and am very happy with it. I switched from Verizon, because I was sick of their 'It's the Network, stupid' and 'V Cast! V Cast! V Cast!' marketing blitzes -- I don't want to watch videos/ads or buy Top 40 songs with my phone, I want to talk to people with it.

I considered getting a Treo, but I hate Windows Mobile and don't like how the Mobile Telcos disable Wi-Fi in preference to selling their own data services.

The SLVR is very small yet feels sturdy, has great battery life and never drops a call. The interface is very customizable and lets me put my most used tools right where I need them. Its simple camera is nice for low-res shots, and iTunes is nice to play my MP3s at the Y. I can transfer via USB or Bluetooth.

I'm using a Sony Ericsson Z500A - it was free with my Cingular contract. Excellent reception almost anywhere, and good UI. My two biggest gripes are that the camera takes horrible pics, and the phone itself is huge. I'm looking into upgrading to a W810i.

Motorola A630.

Works good for texting and as long as a hands free device is used, talking on the phone isn't an issue. Keys are small and it's difficult to get it to hang up when a call is complete. However, I have noticed that for the most part, it hangs up automaticly...I assume it may be able to sense when there is no longer a signal from another phone...or not.

I actually don't care for clamshell phones but this one was cool..I liked the design...liked the monochromatic front display in blue (nice change of routine from all the phones with the mini-lcd display's.

Would still rather have a blackberry.

sony ericsson w600i with cingular. not to many complaints other then it is kind of big when closed. looking to get a w810 in couple of years.

using a sony ericsson m600i. love the small form factor and how it keeps everything organized yet easy to find.i use it to store work contacts and schedules and i sync with Zyb regularly. not so hot about the slightly sluggish OS though.

I review cell phones (and other tech stuff) for some websites, so have been going through a bunch of phones lately. My current faves are the Nokia e70 - best smartphone out there if you need always-on connectivity and don't mind a little bulk; SE m600i - the one pictured on Uncrate; it's super elegant, has a great UI, and a great qwerty board; and SE k790a - 3mp camera with a real flash, great audio player, great screen. I'm using a Blackberry Pearl now and think it's kind of a dud. Small and functional, but the UI and QWERTY board are pretty lame.

Audiovox SMT5600 - I've had really good luck with the phone. Only complaints are steadily waning battery life and the toggle button is poorly designed - hard to select highlighted item without accidentally pushing the selection in a random direction. Otherwise I've had great reception (compared to my previous phone, a T610) and the bluetooth/USB sync functionality is handy.

I had two Razrs in 2 years. Both terrible. Got a Nokia 8801, which - so far - is nice.

Blackberry Pearl

My first BB, and I'm absolutely loving it. The camera is frankly, amazing. It's one of the best cameras on a phone that I've seen. I post pics on my website, and friends/family have a hard time believing I took them w/ a phone.

It's fairly small and compact. I wish I could use WiFi, but T-Mo's Edge/GPRS isn't that horrible for browsing when I need to do it.

It's a cute phone w/ tons of personality. All the Execs here are stuck with older versions of the BB, and have all told me how jealous they are of my shiny new Pearl.

Sporting an unlocked 2125 from Cingular. Get a smartphone. I can't beleive there are so many RAZR posts on this page, yuck.

Nokia N80. Asian version so the UMTS is not the right flavour for the US(I am on Cingular). But who needs it with Wifi. Battery life is poor though. Investing in second battery is almost a must. Symbian rocks. Google maps on my cellphone is awesome. Look up a restaurant, find the address and then dial them from the phone number given. What do i need 411 for?

i'm using a Sony Ericsson P910a. Best phone i have ever used, and im my opinion, its a blackberry killer. used to have a BB7100 before this, and a V3 RAZR before that.

SonyEricsson Z520. I don't use data anymore, so EDGE avails me nothing and I don't much go for phone cameras anyway. The UI is great, the Bluetooth performance is first-rate, the battery life is around 3 days between charges with normal use, and SE finally has decent antenna performance. I had a Moto V635, unlocked and unbranded, but it sits gathering dust because the side buttons constantly bleep and change your ring profile if there is anything else for them to hit in your pocket. The stub antenna and slick metal finish were unhelpful too...

Honestly, there's nothing out there that compels me to switch. If I could get hold of an unbranded W810i (maybe an import Z710i?) I might change my mind.

I also have an L2 for formal situations where I need a flat phone, but the five-year-old Moto UI makes me sad.

Sidekick/Hiptop 2 - This is the second one I have owned and could not imagine using anything else, accept maybe the new gen. If you email or text there really is no better device, not to mention it always grabs attention.

SLVR. I am not impressed. I wish that apple would hurry up and put out a phone with a solid interface that will work seamlessly with my contacts. I could care less about iTunes.

1st generation original RAZR. Terrible menus and all.

Sony Ericsson T630. I love it's size, and has all the functionality I need.

Blackberry 7750...kind of old but it does everything I want it to just fine

Blackberry 7130c.. My favorite phone that I have owned so far..

It replaced my Nokia 6682

I had a RAZR, and it was a piece of junk. I now have a Samsung SGH-D520 and it's great. It's a small slider phone with enough high-end features to make me happy, but it easily dissappears into my pocket so I don't feel like I'm carrying around a laptop. The only downside is that when the battery is dying, plugging it in will not allow you to continue to talk - it drains faster than the charger can charge it. A minor inconvienence once you know about it.

The phone is unlocked and I use T-mobile, it's tri-band, so it probably wouldn't work as well with Cingular.

had the magenta razor...upgraded to blackberry 8790g (something like that)..Hubby got the Moto Pearl...anyone wanna buy a flawless magenta razor on the TMOBILE network?? No, really ;D

Treo 700P with verizon. I love the phone, only issue is when you get to many sms messages collected in your inbox and sent messages the phone will freeze up for longer and longer periods of time when you recieve the conformation notice of a sent SMS. Seems to be a problem with the phones firmware. Just have to remember to delete messages a couple times a week if you are a heavey texter, if not, it isn't even a problem. Alot more stable then the 650.

had the magenta razor...upgraded to blackberry 8790g (something like that)..Hubby got the Moto Pearl...anyone wanna buy a flawless magenta razor on the TMOBILE network?? Just kidding....no, really...it's for sale...cheap! ;D

LG VI-125. I just want my phone to be a phone.

Treo 650 during the day, SLVR at night.
Both have their faults but I haven't found anything better yet.

Samsung A900 w/Sprint. Looks good, battery is adequate. I rate it as a solid "B" to "B+". Screen is clear and sharp. Camera is so-so. Speakerphone is barely adequate.

8125- slide out qwerty, wifi, big screen, windows mobile 5

Nokia 6230

old, yes - but candybar form is still current and small enough for a pocket, rugged enough to be dropped a dozen times (no more squeaky fragile flips for me) with great reception and real speakerphone capability to boot

hah - first to say Sprint PPC-6700. It's a big phone, but once you've gone the PDA/Smartphone route, it's hard to go back.

High-speed data, push email, full internet access, outlook synch, etc...

I carry two phones one for home and one for work. For home I have a razr from cingular which hasnt given me any problems. I love the feel and the from factor. For work I carry a Blackberry 7130e from Verizon which I like better than any of the other blackberry models verizon offers. Fuctions better as a phone and the different keyboard doesn't hinder me at all.

Using a Sprint Treo 650 right now. When the (Product) Red RAZR comes out next month, I plan on getting that as a replacement.

I use a Blackberry 8700g from Tmobile. The Pearl looks so good so it makes me want to switch but I love the 8700. I'd love to add a media player to it...

Verizon Treo 650. It's relatively new to me so I'm still getting used to it. Nice overall, but the Body Glove jacket makes it virtually impossible to use.

Phone: Nokia N93

Good: Like the design, symbian OS awesome... Features are great. Havent use a nokia for a while, my past 3 phones were Sonyericsson (W800i, S700i, T630)

Bad: The bulk... and slow camera statup

For the past 2 months I have been using the Motorola V195 - it's a good solid work-a-day phone. I had to buy it in a pinch when my V300 died while on a business trip. The only thing that bugs me is that I can't get it to work with Motorola Phone Tools. This is a temporary solution anyway as my company just got Saleslogix and our IT guy is going to get us "smart phones" early next year.

I have a black Motorola RAZR V3. I like it a lot. The picture and video quality are pretty good. It works great for slipping into your pocket without anyone thinking, "What is that giant chunk on your leg?"

Treo 650 Cingular: It replaced a phone, a daykeeper, and a photo album. I love the Palm programs. I have the unlimited internet service, and I have coverage on the folks farm in western Oklahaoma.

Right now I'm using an Nokia e61 and Sharp 903SH. Love the Nokia E61, as it's a pda, and cell phone in a nice package, with wifi, BT and Qwerty keyboard. It's blackberry compliant and you can make VOIP calls with the wifi. Just have to find a hotspot and it's good to go, no bringing out the lappy. As for my 903sh, released a year ago and still the best camera phone around with is Sharp lens and 3.2 megapixels. Plus, it has the Sharp LCD screen which is gorgeous and 2nd to none. Of course, waiting for the Sharp 904 to get unlocked and the Nokia N95 to get release to have the next round of SWEET cellphones.

im using a unlocked MOTOROLA A1200 smart phone i love it its ashamed they never officially brought it to the states it came with some great software that allows my to make any mp3 i have a ringtone it even lets you edit the mp3 so if you just want a part of the song you just select the part you want. it syncs seamlessly with outlook it came with a 128mb micro sd card as well to store the 2 megapixel camera/camcorder pictures! i love this phone i really hate how phone companies here (u.s.a.) dont let you use any phone with their service we are so behind with the cell phones here.

I'm using the Cingular 8125, and I'm loving it. Unlimited internet service + hosted exchange server + sliding keyboard = heaven.

I'm using the xv6700 on verizon, its a pocket pc so it helps me keep my life inline. A bit pricy but if you need internet wherever you are, this is the tool to use. I researched all of the other ppcs out there and this seemed like the best one at the time. I was looking at the moto Q, but the lack of touch screen really turned me off. This thing has the touchscreen, plus a slide out keyboard with buttons that are much larger than the tiny palm ppc ones.

I'm double fisting the Razor V3 & the Blackberry 8290. I got tired of not being able to hear my conversations through the BB. The BB is hands down King for email and the other apps are cool too. But using it as a phone without a handsfree device sucks. So I had Cingular remove my data plan and give me a new number for data only on the BB. They waived any initial fees out of fear I might dump them. The Razor is great for talking, especialy with the speaker phone option. Very basic crude UI, but now I can talk on the phone, hear what is being said and use the BB at the same time. And it only takes two phones. Thanks Smart phone guys!

nokia e61. best business phone out there.

Sony Ericsson T610

Pro: weight, size, shape, user friendly, blue tooth, camera. Tri-band

Con: poor screen(can't read under bright light condition), memory(not enough and not support cards), no speaker phone

user-pic

I'm using SE k750i. I'm not sure if you guys have this model in the US. I've always been a Nokia fan but since I switched to SE, there's no turning back. Maybe except for the 8800...

ups: the camera (2MPix), MS cards, nice screen with great resolution and colors, design, battery life

downs: the multimedia features (video, mp3 player) suck - I don't even use them, the manual - it's horrible!, the size - it's just too fat for a standard candy bar phone but I wouldn't trade if for, say, SLVR. no way.

i roll with the BB 7290 - cingular...
its pretty ok for a data organizer, calendar, browser and all that. phone's a little sketchy, not enough volume, and Cingular leaves a little to be desired by way of service...

I'm using a treo 650, potentially going to purchase the 700 when it comes out. I was think about getting the pearl, but the fact that the BB software has limited compatability, and granted Palm has one the largest list of aftermarket sofwares. Battery life does suck on the 650 but the extended batter takes care of that, also having a cradle makes it easy to just throw in no matter how tipsy you are when you get home. It is a brick of a phone, but it does almost anything you could want it to do. (I just wish it had Wi-Fi withut the adaptor but aparently thats been taken care of on the 700)

Motorola Q.

Migrated over from a Treo 650 on sprint...

Pros - Size, EVDO Connection, Functionality is great, push email.

Cons - Battery Life is terrible, operating system is slow and cumbersome, people keep wanting to "see it".

I'm using the Sony Ericsson K800i...and very very happy with it. It's the allure borwn edition so I still feel special if not quite James Bondesque. Great features such as a 3.2 megapixel camera, rss feeds, mobile blogging and video calling...of course the last isn't supported here and I can't even make use of the high speed internet with T-Mobile but all in all its an awsome phone to take pictures with and evern listen to music with. Pair it up with The Sony DR-BT30Q bluetooth stereo headphones and you should feel like a super spy!

TMobile MDA - 4 out of 5 stars. Wish the case wasnt plastic, its a fake silver looking plastic. Love the touchscreen, but damn does it get grubby or what? Love having Windows Mobile, got all kinds of useful software with me at all times, i'm a photographer and I carry my portfolio on it, and the screen is a decent size. Also love the keyboard, and the battery life is surprisingly not that bad. Oh, and I have my estimating tools in pocket excel so I can give quotes on the spot. Love it!

Last 10 months using [SonyEricsson P910i], i'm
holding off upgrading to P990 until i see what
PALM has to offer with its new TREO's. Alot of
people didn't know this about palm handhelds like
the Tungsten T3,which i've used & continue to use
along with the SE K700i and a bluetooth headset,
When you've synced together at the same time makes for a great wireless PDA. Especially hence the Tungsten T3 has a built in dialer & SMS writing software. On a final note, i still can't believe the [Sony Clie NZ90] came and went before many off us could ever get their hands on one, specifically the limited edition gun metal finish model. And in 2003 2.0 MP camera on a handheld was out of this world.
I appologize for the blast from the past news, but
what i'm really trying to say is that if its built to last, then we're probably still using it.
Cheers, Al

I currently have a Samsung SGH-D900 (not available in North America through service providers), and I'm loving it. Ultra slim slider (12.9mm) in sleek black tones with chrome accents. The new interface is vastly superior to previous Samsung UI's, and there's a lot of convenient menus and "popups" that come up. Simple things like the new submenu's that popup overtop the mainmenu. When a call doesn't go through for whatever reason, a menu with a few icons popup giving you the choice to redial the number or select another phone number associated to the contact. The screen is beautiful, very sharp, vibrant and clear display. One neat trick is you can use the 3MP camera to record "VHS" quality videos...and here's the kicker, you can use these videos as call display videos. Pretty sweet! And everyone's always asking about it.

What's bad? The battery life is a little short at the moment, but a few more full charge/discharge cycles may resolve that problem. The software is not as customizable as some others. The 3MP camera...well, it's pretty good in well lit environments, but it's not as nice as some other 3MP camera phones out there. At night, the camera is pretty weak. It has a few quirks, but overall, an awesome cellphone.

Virgin Mobile, keyocera sonic slider. I love it! people are always impressed when i show them i can watch full episodes of my name is earl, then i take out the mico card and they are even more impressed. Plus i dont have to pay $200 a month.

I have one of those new slidey nokia ones (a 6111?) anyways, it's one of those phones that's great if all you want is an actual phone (as opposed to an all singing, all dancing, all music playing monster) AND I dropped it in the toilet (just cleaned in case you were wondering) on friday night and it still works! That's the best compliment you could give any phone methinks.

I have a SonyEricsson K610i
I am not ever going to get anything other than a sonyericsson, until Apple puts theirs out.

Kyocera Slider SE47!! Years and years old, dropped, battered, bruised, and well loved.

My only problem has been battery life, and all I did was go on eBay, buy a couple new ones for 10 dollars, and voila, brand new phone.

People *still* ask me what kind of phone it is, because the slider keeps it different.

Nope, no camera, no video, no music, but it's a damned good PHONE.

I have a Nokia N70 for the past 6 months, its been excellent, robust and easy to use throughout the time with barely a crash. The plastic has started to drastically rub off and looks scruffy. Can't wait to get the N73 or wait til early 07 for the N75.

Another proud owner of the Sony k800i here. I absolutely love the camera and the clear, vibrant screen. The visual style (blacks, silver and deep violet) is ultra cool and everything has such a smooth tactile feel to it. The video quality isn't great, but the superb CyberShot camera more than makes up for this.

Motorola Q. No problems, very customizable interface, have 100 original NES games on it, amazing.

Another RAZR V3 owner here. I am tolerating the phone's unbelievably bad UI (why oh why did I need to flash the phone to get f*cking search in the phonebook?!?) because it's just the prettiest phone I've ever owned, but the SMS system totally screws me over. Why doesn't Motorola just use T9 like any other sensible company? This horrid dictionary system they use is like a Computer Science 101 programming class project in branching gone totally awry.

Samsung T509. T-Mobile. Somebody should make a "Hershey Bar" cell phone cover for this phone!

Nokia 6131 on Cingular. Bought unlocked from Amazon. Very, very nice (minus the all-too-easily scratched faux chrome key surround.)

Moto RAZR V3c running on Verizon's network.

I use a Samsung D900, no problems so far. I chose it above the K800, but the xenon flash would have been useful in hindsight

I use a Samsung D900, no problems so far. I chose it above the K800, but the xenon flash would have been useful in hindsight

Blackberry Pearl. Coupled with the low prices for Blackberry Service from TMobile, this is the best phone / plan combo I've come across in years.

I agree with the other two UTstarcom 6700 users. I had never heard of them, and did some digging. I tossed a (dated) Palm515 and a Moto v710 for this, and have never looked back. It's not perfect, but it's a kickass package. The keyboard is good enough to stop stylus entry all together (imho), and Verizon will even let you install teh firmware update from UT without complaint (allows same time Wifi and cell...). All in all- winmobile gets a (surprise) thumbs up.

Sony w810i. Similar functionality to that of the new James Bond phone. Great for making calls, and taking pictures when you forgot (or chose to forget) your digital camera. Built in media player. Overall very functional without all the hassle or "convenience" of being a PDA phone.

Moto Pebl. Really well designed phone, looks great.
Badly needs a firmware upgrade, have had problems with ring volumes and its features are nothing special.

This would be much less boring if it could be presented in chart form.
Oh, and put me down for the Samsung A900 from Sprint, which I like.

Sony Ericson T68m and T68i, going strong since 2000.

I lost my T68i in a snowbank and got the T68m. When the snow melted, I found the T68i, and it works to this day.

I use them to make telephone calls, because that's what they're for. They're bombproof, have POP email and Bluetooth, and the battery still lasts over a week. I have no contract and have spent $0 on mobile phones for half a decade.

Now that's a gadget.

Treo 650 unlocked in TMobile. Have had Palm based PDAs now Smartphones since they were available. Do not like Windows Mobile 5 and I am not really excited by Treo 700. Looking for the next great leap. Find the Treo really suitable for my use and even though a few years old still the best around. Any new ideas?

VK Mobile's Kickflip on Helio

I love this device so much

i have a motorola v3 razr. it sucks. i have had to exchange it twice...and it is still acting like a fruitcake. I want something else but i just like complaining

AudioVox SMT5600

I got myself a Nokia 6230, got it when it was a brand new model n still don't want a new one.It has most of the features u ever need yet it is small n user friendly.last but not least, i just love the keypad, it's just so comfortable.

I've got a Verizon Motorola E-815, I got it for one reason and one reason only: RECEPTION. seems to be the only phone out there that gets reception where I live (previously dead spot, for multiple phones and carriers). This thing is great, clear signal where others have none. I don't care about the crappy camera that it comes with, and I think it has a small Mp3 player, and internet capabilities, but don't care about that either. The one feature that I thought that was a nice bonus was this phones ability to sync through bluetooth with the address book on my computer, click Sync and now the phone has all the info from the computer and vice-versa. Oh yeah the battery kicks ass too. Not a heavy user but a few minutes per day and nearly two weeks between charges! I had to charge my old LG daily, because it was always searching for a singnal... MOTO-E815 not the smallest, lightest, or anywhere near the most stylish, but the ugly little brick works great.

user-pic

I have a Razr V3 ~ Black. It's ok, it's slim, light and looks good which are big pluses for me but the battery life sucks and the reception can be so so.

i've used the SonyEricsson T630i for 2 years now and it's worked like a charm. the camera is a bit shitty on it, so now i got my thumbs out of my ass and bought a SonyEricsson K800i that i'm getting in a day or two. High hopes about that one :)

Unlocked Nokia N80 (on T-Mobile USA). It's great, with 2GB of memory (via mini SD), I have music, movies, and with all GSM bands, 2100 UTMS for roaming in Japan, and WiFi for surfing the web, it's awesome. Only shortcoming is 3MP camera has no auto-focus and some shutter lag and the movie quality is weak (very noisy).

user-pic

I'm using the Coffee Brown Nokia 7370.

HOT:
Bluetooth
Ease of use
Beats the pants off my V3 RAZR
1.3 mp Cam
looks sexy, comes in a chick version too

NOT:
No flash
scratches like a mofo, use the included velvet slip
it has a tag on the side...no joke

Had SE T616 and upgraded to W600i. Great UI but too fat and rotating number to dial is awkward. Loved the T616 an want the W810i now. I'm locked in with Cingular for 19 more months! Damn them! I want to move on to the W810i NOW!

Phil
OKC

im looking for a phone with a great memory or compatiable with memory cards and with a high MP camera such as 3MP
dows any 1 know what there is?

Motorola MPX220. Windows Mobile OS for the win.

Samsung D900. I think I'll be trading it up for the Nokia N95 as soon as I can get my hands on it.

user-pic

I've used a very basic and nearly free Nokia 6010 before, I'd have to say, excellent phone. Simple, looks nice, and wouldn't break!! (Even when dropping it or throwing it on purpose) Oh, and it was beer proof.

Currently, I've sense lost my destructive habits because I bought a Treo 650 through Cingular. I absolutely love this phone as it does everything a Palm PDA will do as well as function with a phone. Before, I liked carrying a PDA but carrying both was a hassle in my pocket, but now since it's converged, it's great! Also, Treo's talk really nicely with Mac's, so it works flawlessly.

user-pic

Hi there.

I've got what you guys know as an K790i (we know it here in Norway as a K800i). I've had it for 2 months now, and I must say I'm very pleased with it. 3.2MP cam, lightning fast menus and really nice build quality. Was thinking about getting a wi-fi enabled phone, but decided against it. I need something (relatively) small that doesn't look like I've got a boner constantly :)

Definetely recommended!

I use NOKIA E60.
This is good phone only for making calls, other options doesn't work good. So you cant use it like smartphone.
bad:
- Phone is slow
- cant find software for it (only crap)
- hangs when you decide to end call
- battery life not good
- must clean after each call fingerprints
- slow and unstable wifi, better use gprs on this phone

good:
- Big enough phone, i can dial number without watching on screen :)
- Great screen - big, small pixel size, 1 mill colours
- no camera (camera phones is not good enough to use it in phone, i am happy with my ixus 800 is)

I think thats it.

time and time again two universal truths will be revealed , 1 . i cant type worth s***
and 2 . get sony or get lost

the razor was never ment to be competative in features or reception its just thin thats it no more ... maybe less

Just picked up a sony ericsson 810i it has alot of great features only one complaint though people tell me they here alot of background noise when they talk to me. Other than that works great i just dumped verizon for cingular verizon was screwing with my billing to much

Samsung X820 (T519 in the USA) ... slimmest phone out there right now. Great size, music player, 2 MP camera (stills & vid), vibrant display.

I have a Motorola V710. I also have the Motoroal manual that came witht the handset. However it only gives an over view of the functions. I would like step by step by step instuctions so I can send pictures and text by e-mail
If anyone can help me with this or a web site that I can access, I would genuinely be greatful

I have a Nokia 6265i from Telus, and yes, Telus blocks ringtones not purchased from them, BUT, you can hack you're phone with Diego software, and a infrared, bluetooth, or, an USB cable. There's also a Nokia PC Suite available from www.nokia.com with you can transfer files to your cell phone.

good product
