I'm waiting on Vista, for obvious reasons. The other thing I'm waiting on is a new DAP/PMP. I'm really excited by the Wi-Fi capabilities of the Sansa Connect and the Zune, but both products have too many issues for me to go out and get one now. My current DAP is an iRiver iHP-120 that's still going strong. Maybe once there's a new version of the connect with better battery life I will consider it.

1) A new DAP. I also own an iRiver iHP-120 that I'm reluctant to sell, because the current trend in DAP releases are flash based drives, and the highest hard drive capacity I've seen is 12gig (Trekstor Vibez), and that just isn't sufficient for me. I'm waiting for SSD drives to become mainstream :(

2) A universal HD dvd player (plays dvd, blu-ray, HD-dvd, etc) that is region free and can display photos (.jpeg, .png, .bmp, etc), and play divx/xvid.

A 1080p HDTV at 40" or so and wide availability of classic films on BR or HD-DVD. The prices are reasonable enough for the screen at this point, but until classic titles are available (John Ford, Alfred Hitchcock, Coen Bros., Scorsese, Star Wars 4-6, ), it's pointless for me to consider.

I'm 75% sure I'm going to switch to Mac when my curent laptop dies (it's 3 1/2 years old, and showing its age) but I'm going to wait until Leopard and for a hardware refresh on the Macbooks / Macbook Pros.

I'm also waiting to buy my wife an iPod until whatever new ones are down the pike are announced -- either to get a new one, or a good deal on a discontinued one.

Finally, I have a semi-broken cheapo Verizon cellphone that I want to replace, but I'm going to try to wait until my wife's contract is up so we can switch to a different carrier -- I am interested in a smartphone of some sort, but not interested in Verizon's prices for an unlimited data plan. T-mobile is probably in our future. Not an iPhone -- I can't in good conscience pay that much for a telephone, no matter how sweet.

1) HDDVD vs BluRay. When there is a clear winner, my credit card will buy one.
2) Media Center PC. I have a Windows XP Media Center, but I want a cablecard ready with HD out.
3) Laptop. My 700m is perfect for my needs in size, weight, and battery. I want something with more power with the same form factor.
4) 1080p Bravia non-XBR. High def issuse again. When will the programming to match it be available? (in mafia voice) We don' need no stinkin' 1080i.

1. Amazed my cellphone is still alive, submerged under water, antenna is snapped off, and two years old. I am praying my phone still works until the iPhone comes out. I am graduating from college in May and my contract ends in June. Perfect timing!

2. A new desktop computer, whatever hardware upgrades Apple throws this way, i'll be on pretty quick. My powerbook G4 has lasted two years and shows no signs of quitting no matter what I throw at it. So no need to get another laptop.

3. Since i'll be leaving college and moving into a new place, I am basically holding off on everything until I get moved in. TV, and electronics relating...my iPod is about to quit, so that too.

4. My sony digital camera was dropped in the mud, so waiting for the Canon $500 camera with 720p video recording to come out.

First, I am not impressed with the picture quality of most LCDs, nor am I convinced that there is enough content -- other than live sports -- to make the purchase truly worthwhile.

Second, my CRT SD looks fine for what I watch (mostly old TV shows on DVD), works well, and I really don't want to replace it just yet. Maybe -- just maybe -- I am waiting for SED.

1) A new Desktop. Current one is showing it's age. I'd like a Core 2 Duo (Quad maybe?) and a sweet dual output graphics card -- having two graphics cards to power my two monitors doesn't cut it anymore. Additionally I'll up it to 2 GB of RAM. This should happen within 2 months, I figure. I'd like to check out Vista.

2) A new car -- preferably one that gets insane MPG but still feels like a luxury car. I currently have a Volvo with ~110K on it and gets 24 MPG. I don't care about the environment, but hate wasting money on gas. I'd like a hybrid, but since it's a monetary decision, dropping an additional ~$3K on the car now isn't exactly a sound decision, unless gas prices go crazy. (Rough calculations: figure gas is around $3.50 over the next 3 years. I drive about 15K a year. Current car gets 24 MPG, I want a car that gets 45 MPG. This means I would save a little over $3K over three years - not exactly worth the $5K up-front required to get a hybrid these days. The car would have to get over 100 MPG just to justify $5K more upfront.) (For the purposes of this post, I figured interest I could have earned on the cash ends up canceling out the higher resale value.)

As a high school senior preparing for college in a few short months I am in the same postion as many others: In the market for a laptop, specifically an Apple laptop. Ever since my first ipod 4 years ago, I've monitored apple's company, and I know about when they upgrade their laptops, and that they also have a free ipod with a new computer rebate program for students every summer.

My problem? Leopard was SUPPOSED to come out this summer, perfectly coinciding with upgraded laptops and a free ipod nano (for ebay of course).

Then low and be hold Lepoard is delayed! Now I'm suddenly in the market for the cheapest, (but not crappiest!) laptop I can find to use until all the planets of the Apple Laptop universe align again.

Just thought I'd point out a few things, firstly that photo is either a photochop, or just a really unlikely situation, because that BSOD is the windows 9.x series BSOD, despite the vista advertisement next to it.

The other thing is, all the people holding off on buying apple products til Leopard - especially students - DONT! Apple give you a drop in kit with a free Leopard upgrade for people who buy their machine within a few months of the next release. And you know what, even if you dont get that, the whole thing is only $60! Not exactly a huge deal, if you get what I'm saying.

My aging 2G iPod just died, so probably a new Nano is probably in the not-too-distant future especially as I don't see iPhone bringing a lot of changes to the smaller format iPods. It's going to be hard holding off with the nicer weather though, I feel a little self conscious running with a Walkman these days.
