Herman Miller Embody Chair

Herman Miller Embody Chair

Feast your eyes on what may be the most advanced office chair ever conceived. Produced by Herman Miller, the Embody Chair ($1,600) is the successor to the dot-com staple Aeron chair. The most striking feature of the Embody is its "pixelated" skeletal system that's unlike anything you've ever seen or felt. You set its tension depending on the curvature of your back, and it makes your spine feel like it's being hugged by angels. We imagine it's also quite like what being cradled in Ms. Johansson's bosom would feel like.

The narrow back allows you to twist, tilt and pivot like no other task chair. We've had our red-on-white Embody for only a few weeks now, but it's so stunningly comfortable, it makes our old Aeron feel like it was designed around the time cavemen were sliding down the necks of Brontosauruses on their way to the office.

The Embody allows for a crazy amount of tweaking and adjusting. Besides the standard movements, one pretty innovative feature is the adjustable seat depth. Any office chair has adjustable height. But the Embody's seat actually gets bigger (front to back) with a tug of two handles up front. In addition, the armrests have a terrific amount of width adjustment, allowing chubby and skinny geeks alike a perfect fit.

The Embody's base is available in graphite, titanium or polished aluminum, while the frame comes in either graphite or white. There's also a slew of fabric colors to choose from — from the standard black to orange mango. And to top off all the ergo-friendliness is a little eco-friendliness. Each Embody is built in a 100% green energy facility, and is 95% recyclable, 42% recycled and PVC-free.
