Khan Toke Thai House

Khan Toke Thai House

The next time you're in San Francisco, do yourself a favor and head out to the Richmond district for the city's best Thai food, served in a terrific atmosphere. The Khan Toke Thai House sits in between 23rd and 24th at 5937 Geary Boulevard, a solid 20-30 minute cab ride from downtown and worth every penny. The reasonably priced, wonderfully prepared fare includes standouts both spicy and savory, with a nice selection of chicken, seafood, and pork-based dishes. Uncrate favorites include the delicious satay, "Thai spicy" prawns with hot chiles, and fried pineapple topped with a scoop of ice cream for dessert. [Read More]

Nearly as notable as the food, however, is the atmosphere. The interior of Khan Toke is filled with intricately carved wood, and as is traditional, guests remove their shoes before entering, sitting on pillows lining sunken floors, over which food is served on knee-high tables. Soft lighting only adds to the decor, which is rounded out by various tapestries, and a garden. The restaurant also carries a decent selection of beers, and boasts an impressive wine selection. With exceptional food, fantastic service, and an unique atmosphere, Khan Toke is a "must" stop for us anytime we visit the Bay Area.
