With Volkswagen's introduction today of the new 2006 Jetta GLI ($TBA), it looks like the company finally came to its senses and will be offering a model without the ridiculous chrome on the frontend — and we couldn't be happier. The new GLI model (pricing not yet announced) features a 2.0 T turbocharged four-cylinder that's good for 200-hp and is available with a six-speed DSG automatic transmission with Tiptronic shifting. In addition to the standard Jetta features, the GLI has an upgraded suspension, blue-tinted windows, optional 18-inch alloy wheels, alloy pedals and trim, and a three-spoke, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio and telephone controls and DSG shift paddles.
