I always like products that combine (without over-doing it) more than one solution into one.

I found a walmart for a reasonable price a combination snow brush/ice scraper AND emergency shovel.

The ice scraper has a sturdy metal telescoping handle that extends long enough to work as a shovel. There's a plastic shovel that snaps onto the ice scraper; and I've actually used it once when my car was stuck in the snow.

I just stow both safely in my trunk and use when needed.

This isn't much of an issue in Southern New Mexico, but for the three nights where we do get a decent amount of frost the best thing ever is a cheap promotional Frisbee. I'm guessing a store bought one would work just as well.
The circular motion combined with the large scraper area really knocks the ice off fast. Plus you always have a Frisbee under the seat for impromptu summer fun.

I was given an Ice Dozer. It broke the second time I used it. Nice design, but if you keep it in your car (like most people do...) the plastic gets too cold and snaps. A broken Ice Dozer is a useless Ice Dozer.

I've always had good luck with the Blitz IceBreaker. It's a plain-Jane ice scraper, but it uses a hard acrylic blade that is very hard to chip. And when you do chip it, the blade is sturdy enough for you to either use a file or a grinder and actually resharpen the blade. I have both a standard hand-held size as well as a long handled scraper/brush.

Steve, I have never had one break, AND the Ice Dozer has a lifetime warranty. Plus with as much snow and ice as I get, I would rather carry it in to work with me rather than having to fight snow and ice just to open the door to get the ice scraper out.

Call me weird, but it works and is a habit now. And it seconds as a defense weapon if ever needed.

The Ice Dozer looks nice, but I prefer having the telescoping handle because I can't reach completely across my windshield effectively with others. And I hate leaving that line of ice in the middle of the windshield or not getting the back window.

For my truck I've used a brush, squeegee, scraper combo much like the "Long Handled Ice Breaker" Steve mentioned. I picked one up a couple years ago at a local hardware store for less than $10 and it's gotten me through some heavy Chicago winters, works like a charm, and saves me time when I'm late for work.

I have a basic scraper, but have a washer fluid heater...this item is amazing and easy to install. It's called the HotShot and it works!

I was just looking at those the other day. If I can get one for under $100 I would already have one.

Don't bother buying anything, just put a towel on any window you want deiced. Close a part of the towel in a door or window to hold it down, or use tape, or for the windshield use your wiper blades. In the morning, remove the towel and all the ice with it.
