Hey guys the best I found yet to have played football for 5 years and for working outside under snow condition is this Underarmour one. On top of being very warm, fitted (so you can still wear anything over it) it also come in multiple colors.
Hope you like it!
I'm partial to both Helly Hansen's LIFA gear and Icebreaker's Active Base layers
Generally: don't get anything cotton. I'm not a fan of straight-up polyester either (like UnderArmour, etc) because it stays wet. Sure, it might retain a bit of heat when wet, but you're still wet.
Helly Hansen's LIFA (polypropylene) gear is generally designed to keep you dry, and I find it does the best job of it. Plus it looks really cool.
Icebreaker's wool stuff is warmer than HH, but stays wet longer. Of similar brands, they've got some of the better, modern styling.

I spent a lot of time looking for a thermal to wear under short sleeve shirts when it's just a little too cold. I ordered from American Apparel and it was exactly what I was looking for. Long sleeves, tall fit but not baggy. Not a real cold weather thermal but perfect for a rainy Seattle day.
My 2 cents.
Check out Under Armour brand insulated line. I have a few of them, and they are fantastic. More comfortable than several of the other Brands I have tried.
To my mind you can't go wrong with the merino wool shirts from Ibex. The are light, wash easy super comfortable and they don't stink if worn for protracted periods. What they say about their suff is true.

I've been wearing Patagonia's capilene zip-t's for nigh on 17 years.
The lighter-weight ones are perfect under dress shirts in the dead of winter and the heavier are great for a base performance layer on the bike ride to work.
