Bathrobes are great directly out of the shower or to wear after getting out of an outdoor hot tub, sauna or pool, but make sure you get one that fits. Their is nothing worse that a guy in a short bathrobe. ComfyRobes.com has quality men's 20 oz Turkish Terry bathrobes in both 52" length and also in the tall 60" versions. If you are 6' tall or taller then you must get the tall 60" version. These bathrobes come in both hooded and non-hooded versions and are available in White, Navy Blue and Beige.
Unless you have game like Hugh Heffner, there really isn't any reason to get one. That being said, there are a bunch of options here: terry velour, waffle weave (usually 100% cotton), and plush microfiber, which is usually 100% polyester. Upon asking some wonderful ladies who work at a spa across the street this question, they told me something made out of terry cloth is the way to go, because upon stepping out of the shower, mud bath, swimming pool, and into one of these will dry you off pretty quickly, as terry cloth is super absorbant. I also understand that Ralph Lauren makes one super bath robe, so check out his line. Need some cloth in the shower, to exofoliate better and get cleaner? Try the Sponge Cloth for some gentle, on-point cleansing.
I can only assume you mean for your girlfriend or wife because real men don't wear bathrobes.

Save the silk and Playmates for Hef. Wittman makes no logo textile products. Their white terry bathrobe is just what a bathrobe should be. It is a heavy duty absorbent plain ol' white terry robe. The same one the Ritz Carlton hangs and sells for second mortgage money. Wears like iron which is a reason to hate it as well. They never wear out so you never get to buy a new one. Or maybe that's a good thing?
Well, there's a distinction between a dressing gown and a bathrobe. The terry cloth garments at hotels are bathrobes. That ten-yard silk drapery worn by Hef is actually a dressing gown. Brooks Brothers makes great examples of both, by the way.
The heavy bathrobes are the best in my opinion. I bought mine at hotestoyou.com. They always have sales, so be patient.

Derek Rose, a London designer who makes fine mens pajamas, also has great robes. See the Derek Rose site
Pendelton also makes a nice mens robe: Pendelton site
20oz robes are nice, 24oz are even better, especially for a man.

These are the no joke, real deal, mack daddy robes.
In my opinion, bathrobes must be extremely comfortable to wear. I very much enjoy the micro-denier fleece I bought from timelesselements. You can find this robe at Product Name
The best thing is this robe has hidden pockets :)

I have a Kensington robe from www.ralphlauren.com, it's thin and all around good cotton robe, but it is not a towel-like fabric robe, if thats what you are wanting.
