I'm looking for a stylish weekender bag that doesn't look like a fortified piece of airline luggage.
I have 2 suggestions depending on what style fits you better. I have the Duluth Trading AWOL bag http://www.duluthtrading.com/store/products/35651.aspx. It is awesome for a small carry-on bag. You can fit a tons of stuff in it and the patina only gets better the longer you have it. It has gotten me complements all over the country. If you need something that is larger, more casual, or if you don't like leather, the Wm J Mills duck duffel bags are great http://shop.millscanvas.com/DuckDuffelBags.html

My Citizen bag by CHROME is perfect for a two-to-three day weekend away. Plenty of room, pockets, and very stylish.
Messenger bag not your style? GUESS makes a pretty swank Fashion Duffle
three words for you: Louis Vuitton Duffle
Checkout the Kenner from Matt & Nat. It is a great bag that serves as my more stylish weekender or gym back.
I've tried crumpler bags (which are great) and various backpacks and duffle bags from REI, but my current bag of choice is the Sunwashed Canvas Bag from LL Bean. It's durable, stylish, and will be converted in to a diaper bag shortly as we are expecting our first child. It has enough room to use for a weekend trip and the outer pockets are useful for storing things like a water bottle or other commonly accessed items.
Two ways to Go. The Weekender by E Bags is incredibly versatile - Ive used it as my main carry on to Europe a few times (http://www.ebags.com/ebags/weekender_convertible/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=15026)
Also, the Guy Stuff Weekender (http://www.territoryahead.com/jump.jsp?itemID=8709&itemType=PRODUCT&path=1%2C2%2C4%2C192&iProductID=8709&sortBy=Sort by&page=1&onePage=) from the Territory Ahead is very stylish in a southwestern sort of look.
Saddleback Leather Co. makes a couple of messenger bags, duffles, and backpacks that could all work, and look amazing. The Large Satchel converts to a backpack, which is convenient.
I would go for any of the Wm. J. Mills & Co. duffel bags. http://shop.millscanvas.com/DuckDuffelBags.html They have a huge color pallet available in Cotton duck (preferred) or patterns in acrylic. Simple in construction and very sturdy. Beyond the duffels is an assortment of canvas briefcases and large tote bags to make a stylish, yet understated set that holds a bunch and travels well. Even if you are last on the airplane, you can always find a spot to cram these carry-ons. If they get dirty you can machine wash them. The workmanship is superb and they last forever.
Best bag I've ever owned is the Venezia Grande:http://www.flotoimports.com/VenGrandeDuffle-luggage.html from Floto.
Not cheap but worth every penny I spent on it.

Tom Bihn Aeronaut is my preferred bag.

Airline carry on size and the packing cubes for it allow you to pack more than I would have ever expected.
I'm partial to a generic roll-on gym bag. Goes from camping to road trip to the airport.
Get yourself a RedOxx Air Boss, and you can take it with you on your last journey off this planet.
I feel it depends on what you are planning for the weekend. If it is all casual, I will typically just throw everything in to my backpack.
If I am bringing nicer clothes, I will use a MLC (maximum legal carry-on) Burrito by Patagonia.
how much crap you gonna pack? when its fully packed can you lift it? If you can't lift it you have too large a bag and way too much shit. See your therapist. Now how much money do you want to spend? You can go couture and spend hundreds if not thousands and people will know you are a poser. Or you can go to the local ArmyNavy store and get some knockoff knapsack. And everyone will know you wish you had enough money to be a poser.
Or you could actually do some research on this new thing called the internet? and there's this thingy called Google? plug in weekend bag start your own research.
Duluth has some nice stuff so does Louis Vitton somewhere in between is the perfect bag for you enjoy the hunt
This is a pretty nice weekender canvas bag I bought (sage color) a couple weeks ago. It's well made and looks nice, on sale for under $100.

My mother and I make some pretty awesome duffel bags out of laminate sailcloth material, including our new Carbon Fiber Airstream
You can't go wrong with something that is understated, functional, waterproof and large enough for your laptop and all the other tech stuff you probably can't live without (or at least I can't live without out). This Jack Spade Industrial Field Bag also has uses space like none other, with a front flap pocket that is totally hidden from view and organizational pockets on all sides of the inner lining surrounding the main inner chamber.
I like this bag. and it's named Guy Stuff so how can you go wrong - Product Name
Bonobos, one of the best companies for buying men's pants, recently released some men's bags that look pretty great. Check out the Earnest Alexander Bags at Bonobos if you get a chance.
I have this Mulholland Brothers bag:

And I love it. It has only gained character over time through use and I always get compliments on it. Mulholland has lots of other great products as well, in case you're not feeling the one I posted.
