Optical illusions are your best friend, Chris. Here are 5 tips that make short people look fat and tall people look amazing:
1. Wear tops with thick, horizontal stripes. Like this Henly by A&F .
2. Rugby polos are cut to give you a beefier more masculine look. My favourite comes from Ruehl
3. Always wear darker bottoms. Dark jeans and black corduroy are my usual go-tos.
4. Too hot for pants? The right Capris will make you inches shorter. Make sure you wear something tasteful, like the Etoo 2 Capri Short by Jet Lag
4. Emphasize your shoulders and chest by zipping up jackets halfway. Jackets should always be darker than whatever you're wearing underneath.
5. A nice Sports Coat will make you look broad, masculine and swarthy. Between jet setting and hanging out with super models, I'm usually wrapped up in this Sport Coat by Calvin Klein
Hope this helps!
When you are buying button down shirts, take them to a place like Jos. A Bank. They will custom tailor each shirt for just $15. Well worth the money. It'll make your clothes fit you like a glove, and look like they were made for you.
Keep it fitted. Take a look at your closet, figure out your favorite brands/style/look, and size down to see if the proportions feel right. Find a good tailor and get your correct measurements. This way you know exactly your size.
Two good options which have both worked for me:
1) Get married. I'd been 6'5" and 170 pounds for like eight years when I finally got hitched; fast-forward a year and a half and I'm 6'5" and 200 pounds and looking significantly less goofy and more normal.
2) Boot-cut jeans work well; the slight flair at the bottom of the cuff draws attention away from your probably-big shoes. For shirts and stuff, lots of companies sell "tall" versions of their clothes so you can get your length without wearing a sheet around, and in particular, Hugo Boss tends to cut their clothes for the lanky crowd.
Beyond that, just embrace it as has already been suggested. Chicks dig tall guys.

Start squatting and deadlifting.
And seriously don't buy capri pants like Dylan Hafertepen recommended. You'll not only look tall and lanky, you'll also look like a fool - unless of course you intend on wading through ankle deep water sometime soon.
As a tall lanky guy myself, I tend to embrace the look. Many men long to be tall and thin. Enjoy the look you have now! Not everyone gets to wear your shoes.
Hair – Should be shorter in length, nothing that resembles a diamond shape in terms of the cut, and don’t have hair that sticks up like Kramer did.
Skin - Since you’re taller, make sure your skin is really nice and clean because with your height everyone will notice it that much more. Use a targeted daily cleanser like “MenScience Daily Face Wash”: http://www.groominglounge.com/ms-dfw.html
Nose Hair - Should be groomed regularly since everyone will be looking into your nostrils. Try the “Mangroomer Nose & Ear Hair Trimmer”: http://www.groominglounge.com/mm-nose.html
Shoes – Should not be square toe, it’s a fashion faux pas to begin with and if you’re a tall man you’ll look like Ronald MacDonald.
Posture – Don’t hunch to feel smaller. Bad for the back and looks unnatural.
Clothing – Do not wear anything baggy or large or anything that hangs. Wear fitted clothing and find a tailor that is great for your body type. Make sure your jacket is fitted right on your hips. Pants should not be baggy, you want to feel more like a runway model. Do not wear or let any suit maker put shoulder pads in your jacket.
Hope that helps.
It really is a tough thing to do, but the bottom line is that you have to have balance. Too baggy, and your clothes will scream "he's over-compensating". Too tight, and you'll look like Bruno. Look for something that has sleeves which fit just right but an overall cut that is a bit longer. Again, not an easy thing to do. You could always just copy certain NBA players: big chains, bigger throwback jerseys.
One quick piece of advice for dress pants is to have a cuff put on them. This gives you the illusion of being shorter. Likewise un-cuffed pants make you look taller. Hope this Helps

Try wearing t-shirts of a heavier weight cotton, and particularly sweaters that have a thicker heft to them. If you're tall, be sure to buy clothes that fit, and are not too big. Big clothes on a big person will make you look even worse, and the same goes for clothes being to small.
