Don't wash your jeans.
Sadly air drying will almost always lead to your jeans being stiff. I've tried ironing them on a "steam" setting which seems to loosen them up, but nobody wants to iron their jeans every time they use them. My best suggestion would be to hang them in the bathroom while you take a shower in the morning. This will loosen them up a bit. Put them on soon afterwards and you shouldn't have a problem.
wash them in cold water. put them in the dryer for 5-10 minutes on a very low power setting. then you should hang dry them for about 30-45 minutes and then wear them around the house until they are completely dry. this will help the denim form to your body and stiffness will be all but a distant memory.
I let mine air dry completely. Then, I toss them in the dryer with my next regular load of laundry.
There's enough moisture evaporating off the other clothes to loosen them up a bit, which, when combined with the tumbling and a dryer sheet, results in a nicely softened yet unshrunk pair of duds.
Second the throw in dryer after they are done air drying for 10 minutes. On a cold winter day, it's even better. Also, if you are of the type to do it, throw in fabric softener in the washer. I'm not a fan, but my woman chastises me if I don't follow the routine for her jeans when I do wash.
And, since we are in winter and talking of jeans, if you have not tried them, get a pair or two of flannel lined jeans. They feel great and keep you very warm.
Cheers,
- Lou
Definitely the dryer. Take a dryer sheet and spritz some water on it-then toss your jeans in for no more than 5-10 minutes. They'll soften right up, but won't fade .
Don't wash your jeans that often. If they smell a little try sticking them in the freezer. It gets rid of odors and doesn't shrink them.

Throw them in the dryer for 10 minutes under fluff dry and some fabric softener. They won't shrink and will smell nice. If they are really stiff, you may have hardwater.
