The Notebook Portable Grill: $40, 8lbs, folds completely flat & is by far the most stylish charcoal grill out there.
The FlameDisk is the best product I've come across for grilling on the go: camping, tailgating, boating, etc.
Tastes like charcoal but way easier to use. Also, no cleanup and 100% recyclable.
I meant to add on my last post, full disclose, I do work for the firm that makes the FlameDisk, but I guarantee it works better than similar products that are charcoal based. The FlameDisk uses solidified ethanol.
Mark, correct me if I'm wrong, but is your product basically just a heat source? It looks like you can't use it by itself to cook on, you just put it at the bottom of your grill instead of a bag of charcoal. So Shawn would actually still need to buy a grill to use it in?
A Weber Smokey Joe or the grills provided at most campsites work great in conjunction with the FlameDisk. However, we've had customers send us pictures of when they used an oven grate and empty beer cans to improvise a grill while cooking too--so anything will work. To answer your question, yes you do you need some sort of grilling apparatus.
So you've basically answered his question of "What's a good kind of car to get me to x" with "Personally, i like using 95 octane super unleaded, which i currently sell"
Good show, sir.
Shawn, if you're even still reading this, i can personally recommend two grills, depending on your needs (neither of which am I in any way affiliated with whatsoever)
First, if you're hiking or going to be moving around a lot and so weight is a consideration, there's the Grilliput which folds up tiny yet is sturdy enough to do a decent number of burgers and yes, can be used with Mark's Flamedisk as a fuel source.
Alternatively, if you're going to be in the same place for a while there's the Son of Hibachi which uses a unique folding mechanism to create a blast furnace like effect to get your charcoal ready to cook on extra quick and then afterwards to burn off any residue on the grill itself, making it effectively self cleaning. It also comes with a heat proof pouch made of the same material as firefighter's protective suits so you can put it away without having to wait for it to cool right down after use.
Hope these have been helpful.
There's no harm in presenting Shawn with more options. Depending on various camping situations, ie if there are grill pits or not, the FlameDisk may be the lightest, easiest solution. I'd say when packing for camping or hiking, it's nice not to have to drag charcoal along.
That being said, If you're backpacking or have the ability to pack your own larger grilling surface than another option may fit his needs better. The Grillput does look like a nice grilling set that I hadn't seen before. Thanks for sharing.

The Weber smokey joe is great! It is small but grills great (just like a big Weber).
