Sam adams Summertime
Here is a small list that I have tried in the past few weeks...All very refreshing (expect maybe the Hercules) and summer tasting:
Oberon from Bell's in Michigan
Abita Strawberry Lager
Hercules DIPA from Great Devide
Wailua Wheat Ale from Kona
For the traditional Summer Day Beer I usually stick with a Pilsner.
Sunshine Pils by Troegs is probably the best one I can think of off the top of my head.
If you are around Massachusetts, get Wachusett Brewery's Summer Ale. It made me tear a little. Other than that Harpoon makes a great hefeweizen called UFO that is great for the summer.
A good Belgian Saison
It's a beer designed by generations of hard-working Belgian farmers to be light, refreshing, hydrating and damn tasty.
The Brasserie Dupont is the classic saison, although personally, I found it a little under-flavoured.
La Merle, by North Coast Brewing is one of the best beers I've had, and I highly recommend it.
And whatever you drink, remember, ice cold isn't the best temperature for beer. In fact, most taste better when you let them warm up a little
If you can find it, Desperados is a fantastic summer drop. It's made in France & flavoured with tequila, buy the glass bottles and drink it with lime in the neck as you would a Corona or Sol. Strong (5.6%) but light, sweet and very refreshing.
Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy. Phenomenal summer beer.
pbr, modelo, and blue moon (only draft though) are always my summer choices
I generally like a mild pale ale or pilsner for a hot day.
the Dogfish Head Shelter Pale Ale is a great pale
the Victory Prima Pils, as well as the Brooklyn Brewery Pilsner are also good swill.
i agree with pbr and high life; but no one has mentioned the midwest staple, boulevard wheat.
I agree with Joshua Austin - Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy. Great beer.
I enjoy the Leinenkugel Sunset Wheat (in bottle, never draft), but the taste can be strong (think fruity pebbles) not refreshing.
Looking for refreshing, try Sly Fox's Pikeland Pils or the Victory Prima Pils. Both are perfect during or after a marathon mowing session.
And I think Jorge means Sam Adams Summer Ale. Which is great for those cool summer nights. Preferably with some thing off the grill.
My favorite summer time beer would have to be Anchor Steam Summer Beer. It's a summer wheat beer that doesn't try to go so fruity (as say, Blue Moon) and thus retains a solid taste. Really hits the spot when you are parched.
New Belgium Brewery's Skinny Dip is a really nice summer beer. They are most well known for their wonderful Fat Tire beer, served all year round.
Twisted Thistle Indian Pale Ale. If you don't like a hoppy beer, don't event try it, though
I have to give it up to Leinenkugel's Summer Shandy. A shandy is traditionally beer mixed with lemonade but Leinenkugel decided to add lemon juice during the brewing process to keep the ABV up. Not crazy high but average.
Another beer that has been phenomenal this summer is Sam Adam's Imperial White. Amazing Flavor with great notes of coriander. A strong beer but with plenty of summer flavors.
Red Stripe. Cool bottle, easy to drink, and a real beer, not some fruit cocktail white beer.
Bells Oberon
Special summer beer, only available in the summer. Bells Brewery is based in Kalamazoo, MI and distributes throughout the midwest and east coast (from Chicago to NC... as far as I know). The brewery throws a Oberon kick-off party each year. Great with an orange.
For those of you who live on Long Island, NY head out east to Greenport and go to the newly opened Greenport Harbor Brewery (can be seen on facebook). Their Summer Ale was just as good if not better than the Sam Summer. Amazing.

It depends on my mood. This year I've had everything from a Yuengling to a Great Divide Oak-aged Yeti imperial stout. Really, beers have no seasons in my book. I will admit that some are seasonally brewed, but I can drink anything any time. In general, hefes (or wit or wheat), pilsners, kolschs and IPAs are summer-esque beers.
That being typed, my go-to might be the Sweetwater Road Trip. Buy some if you find yourself in Atlanta. It started as a lager, but they pitched ale yeast during fermentation. The result was a crisp, fruity pilsner with just enough hops to remind you it's a real beer.
