I tend to go heavy on the lime wedges.
1 cup of gin
1 bottle of tonic
1 lime wedge (optional)
mix to taste
INGREDIENTS
2 oz. Hendrick's Gin
Tonic Water
PREPARATION
Pour Hendrick's Gin into highball glass over ice cubes
and fill with tonic water. Stir. Garnish with cucumber.
If you just want to sit in a big leather chair and savor a g&t, then 1 part gin, 2 parts tonic.
If you're partying in the summer heat, or just plan on consuming a lot, then 1 part gin, 3 parts tonic.
If you're playing poker with friends, then 1 part gin, 6 parts tonic - don't give your punk friends an inch.
2 Oz. Brokers Gin
Tonic Water (Hansen's is really good)
Mini cucumber sliced in half for garnish.
There is no better summer drink than that.
The gin and tonic is a simple classy drink that, when done right, can provide a nice refreshing experience.
Different gins have different amounts of the florals in them, this is what makes each gin distinctive. For Gin and tonics, it's important to know what gin you like best. Generally the top level gins are all nice, but if this is a drink for you, find the gin you like and mess with the ratios until you find your perfect drink.
The standard G&T is made with lime, because the lime wedge ( I recommend Mexican not Persian) provides a nice bitterness and mellows out the otherwise overly floral nature of the gin.
So, to make a good standard gin and tonic:
1 part Gin
3 parts Tonic
2 lime wedges
1. Pour the gin into a highball glass filled with ice.
2. Lightly squeeze 1 lime wedge into the gin.
3. Top with tonic water, stir.
4. Run the used lime wedge around the inside lip of the glass.(Optional)
5. Garnish and serve.
I recommend running the lime wedge around the inside lip of the glass when using harsher gins, Tanqueray and the like. The gin and tonic is simple, but everyone's tastes aren't. Mess around with it a little bit until you find exactly what you like.
My way of making them:
1 part Bombay Saffron
2 parts tonic
splash of grapefruit juice
garnish with lime wedge
If we're talking the Perfect G&T
1 part Old Raj Gin, chilled
2 parts Fever Tree Tonic
don't go near that glass with any lime.
You need a good gin and a good tonic. The tonic makes the difference. 1 park Gin, 2 parts tonic.
I'll echo Nate, Fever Tree Tonic is great. You can get it at Whole Foods.
