I am married and yes we picked out our engagement/wedding rings together at our family jeweler.
However, you're going to loose your butt on
re-selling or pawning an engagement ring.
I can't believe I'm typing this but what is wrong
with giving it to another person later on? The meaning behind it doesn't change just because it's a used ring, does it?
I mean dudes give their loves their "grandmother's or mother's ring" all the time and unless the chick's a complete bitch she doesn't typically turn it down. So what's the diff?
I might be being too practical here but in financial times like now and as long as the
ring(s) is in good condition, with the ORIGINAL RING BOX, in my humble opinion I think it's ok to use it again.

Get a few appraisals and throw it up on craigslist or any other forum/community (with a for sale section) that you are a standing member of.
It'll be more work than taking it to a jeweler or pawn shop, but you'll probably get more out of it too.
