I love having a beard but it causes my face to break out, what kind of face wash can I use to combat this?
There are a lot of reasons you could be breaking out underneath your beard or while growing one, but the most common reasons any man breaks out when growing or maintaining a beard are as follows. Reason one, a man could be using a highly concentrated face wash that is stripping the face of natural oils, and therefore the body is producing more to compensate and the excess oil is leading to common comedones (whitehead pimples). The second reason is that you have a thicker beard and are not doing enough to cleanse the skin or pores underneath the hair follicle. Bacteria and dirt get caught underneath, and blackheads will then form. A solution to the first issue is to use a less drying, less concentrated daily face wash. Try Demalogica Special Cleansing Gel and you should note a difference. For reason number two, try Bluebeards Original Beard Saver and you should see a difference in beard texture and skin appearance.

With a beard I also noticed that my face seemed to be more oily, with an increase in acne and ingrown hairs. I have tried almost all of the acne wash face soaps, and have only had average success, so I went old school. I use a fresh washcloth, and a bar of traditional dove soap, and wash my face that way. Do not scrub to hard, or you will do more damage then good, but just enough to get down to you skin and remove that build up of oils and dead skin that occur when you have a beard, especially a thick one.
